I'm really, really interested in the 1/2 for 2008, but I need to convince the DH that I am committed to it. How long do you all think I have before the registration closes?

Also, any tips on a mostly treadmill training program (I would only walk, not run)? We live up here north of Seattle, and the rain somewhat hinders my desire to go outside. :rotfl:

Hi!! I don't know about when the 1/2 registration might close, but I have done almost all my training on a TM. I registered for my first half (WDW Jan 2006) in Jan 2005 and began training to train. Basically I purchased my TM and tried to use it 3 times a week for 30 minutes or so. I wasn't concerned about speed, just about establishing the good habit of exercising regularly. As time passed I increased the length of time and pace of my walks. At 14 weeks out I used John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals training plan for walking a 1/2. In Jan 2006 I received my beautiful Donald medal!

I really encourage you to go for it!

You still have time to get in your training to do the half for 2008. You need to begin putting in steps and maybe some exercises for cross training (XT) to help you improve overall strength and core strength. If you are looking for some reference material, I'd highly recommend the Marathoning for Mortals book by John Bingham. I'm a penguin and this program worked for me. There are other training guides in the sticky links at the top of this forum that might help you get the program that would work for you.

You may have a couple of months to make up your mind, but I wouldn't wait. Make the commitment and come play with the rest of the walkers/runners on the weekly threads. It is a fun way to make the upcoming event even more spectacular. We all meet that weekend and have such a great time after having chatted on the threads all year.

Go for it! I know you can do this. Stop by and let us know how you are managing.
