Quick ? about WOC picnic option

So, quick question about this. Does it matter when you go and pick up your meal? Does the pick up time determine your fast pass time/color section?

Can you pick it up around 6pm or so and then go line up and eat your food?

The picnics give out blue and yellow FPs. When you pick up your meal does affect whether you get blue or yellow. It seems they tend to start with one color and when they run out transition to the other.

You can pick up at 6PM and eat your food in line if you want.

That's exactly what we did this summer. Picked up our picnics around 6 and then ate them while we sat around the area where we were told the "clump" (not a line at the first show) would form.

We got blue.

We picked ours up around the noon hour. We also got blue. ter-moo is so right on about the "clump". Disney is usually very organized about lines, but not in this case.

If you preorder a picnic it will be for the 1st show of the night and can be picked up between 11:30am and up to one hour before showtime. They hand out yellow and blue, but not nessecarily both in any given day.

When I got a preordered picnic I showed up very early and they were giving out yellow. I asked when they would have blue and they told me to try coming back later around 3 or 4and they might have blue, or maybe still yellow. They didn't know.

If you purchase a picnic the same day (only available on days with multiple shows, and even then not garaunteed to be available) it will be for the second show. It is reported that in this case it is always for the yellow section.

Same thing happened to me last month. I wanted a blue FP because I wanted to stand next to the VIP section as recommended by Disneyland 1951 here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2501719. I stood in his blue spot #1 right behind the fire hydrant he refers to elsewhere.

Thanks for this info. We have 2 kiddos and only want to try WoC with the picnics & blue FPs so we can get a bridge spot. Now I know that I can try for the blue even if they try to give me yellow.

I should add the CMs were really cool about it and were more than willing to give me a blue at 11:30AM when I first showed up. They just did not have any blues - they actually looked and asked around. That is why they told me to come back.

We only want to see the second show, so we are planning to buy ours the day of- are you saying that they might not sell them for the second show? Are we taking too big of a risk?

I'd say a small risk. I think this only happens when all of the picnics are preordered. I've only read of it happening once so maybe that was a fluke.

Make sure you go on a day with more than one show. So far in the offseason they have only been doing one per night (Mon -Thu), and on the weekend (Fri-Sun), two shows.
