Quick ? about Upgrading...

...to an annual pass. We have 6 day park hoppers, and I hope to have enough money at the end of the trip to upgrade to the deluxe AP. Now, I asked our gal who set up the package about it and she said just make sure you do it before the last day of your 6 days...
My question:
If i upgrade on day 5 or so, i cannot go on our last planned day as it is a blackout day. Our trip is scheduled from Sun 23-Fri28th. (blackout days being 27, 28, 29) Is that true, or can i just enter park on the morning of day 6 and upgrade then? Will they kick us out? Make us pay the $40 extra? That will make a huge difference as we are a family of 7. This is our only chance to ever have AP's, so I really hope it works out.
And, if we do get in, and they upgrade us, would we still be able to get into California Adventure? I am unclear how that works too.

Once you are in the park they won't make you leave. What I don't know is if they will restrict you from hopping that day.

Also, you wouldn't have to upgrade on day 5, you could do it on your last day. You just have to upgrade before the day is over.

I'm not sure why she told you to do it before your last day. Perhaps what she meant was to do it before your PH expires? I am 99.9999% sure you can upgrade to the AP on your last day (in which case the blockout day is irrelevant). Someone else will verify this here.

She was meaning that you had to do it at some point on the 6th day, or before. You can't come back the next day and do it.

Since the blockout days are on your last two park days, you will not want to upgrade before the LAST day.

If you upgrade ON a blocked out day, you still get to go to the park and hop and get FPs and everything. So if the 27th were your last day, you'd upgrade then. But as it is, if you upgraded on the 27th, you would have to pay the blockout pass on the 28th.

So upgrade on the 28th at some point after entering the park, and it will be fine. Hop, FPs, everything. You won't get to take advantage of the discounts on this trip, but there will be other times!



From what I've read, on the 28th, you can pay the upgrade at the ticket booths. They will give you...something...and then when you get into DL you can go to the processing center and have your pictures taken and all of that!

If you go to the booth the morning of your last day they should let you...I think this was brought up in another post but I didn't read back for the answer. Anyhow, they'll need your name and adresses and then they'll keep your pass and give you a ticket...kinda like a voucher that lets you into DL to get your AP's at the bank.

I can confirm that i upgraded on my last day, pictures have to be taken at DL so allow some time for it, it can be busy towards the end of the day. I don't know 100% about hopping back to DCA after you get the AP, I would ask when you get there, but at worst you can hop all day and just make sure you get that pass upgraded before you leave. it is smart to upgrade in order to use the magic morning benefit and avoid blackouts.

Oh that is so much better, and more along the lines of what I thought. So, I can even upgrade in the middle of that last day, right? I think if that is the case, we could enter CA before we go upgrade. Then we would be stamped and have no problem.

Some folks are mentioning paying for the upgrade at the ticket booth. I actually paid for my upgrade when I took my picture. No need to wait in 2 lines.

And yes, you can upgrade anytime during the day. The lines can get long though, so don't wait until closing.

Upgrade your last day, you can go to the entrance gate and let them know you're upgrading, then go to the bank and pay there. OR you can go to the ticket booths and pay for the upgrade and then go in and get your pictures done. You are able to get FP, you are able to park hop and you will then qualify for you discounts on food and some merchandise. Save your shopping for your last day if you can, get that discount!! You will not have to pay blackout fees when you upgrade.

I would upgrade the last day at the Bank. That is what we did this last trip and it was really easy. Just be prepared to answer questions about what your first day at the park was and which park you visited.

I knew there was something wrong with my thinking last night, but I couldn't figure out what it was!

I get so used to the idea of upgrading from one AP to another, and I forgot that the OP has tickets.

So yes, OP, just go use your ticket on its last day, no need to wait at the booths AT ALL. And just go to the bank (they can only do initial APs in Disneyland...DCA doesn't have the cameras) when you're ready and when the line is short-ish, and there ya go!
