Queueing at City Hall in MK

Folks:

My DD has a health condition. If it were my health condition, I would share specifics, but it is my DD and I would like respect her privacy. My DW and I intend to inquire about a DAS "card" or "pass". My understanding is that to inquire about DAS you need to head to GR. My family will be attending MK on our first day.

1.) My understanding is that GR still at City Hall in MK. Am I wrong and has it moved?

2.) Is there a socially distanced queue for entering City Hall? If so, whereabout do you enter the queue?

3.) Approximately how long does the interview and process take regarding DAS. Is this something that would take 30 minutes or less? Several hours?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

The queue actually.lines up right next to city hall and they will direct you, but it is socially distanced.

The length of time once you get to a is under 5 minutes, how long you are waiting will depend on how many parties are there.

Just remember to discuss your needs, not any diagnosis. So explain waiting in the queues would be hard because xyz. Do keep in mind, the DAS isn't for mobility issues.

I understand why a CM cannot ask for a diagnosis. We may or may not share the diagnosis. It depends on my DD's willingness. My DD does not have a mobility issue. She is ambulatory. She has an underlying health condition with side effects that I think would make the queueing hard and potentially impractical.

My DW and I have been loathed to seek assistance with our DD for several reasons. For one, we have spent too many hours in pediatric waiting rooms, looking at the other ill children and the stressed parents, to know how blessed we are and especially how blessed our DD is. Things could be a lot worse and we count are blessings. But, all that being said, this may be a helpful tool to make our DD's WDW holiday a magical one. That is important to my DW and I.

Just to expand on this... there is zero need to share the diagnosis. If that helps your DD feel more comfortable, you can assure her it won't be mentioned at all. Just explain to GR how the side effects impact her ability to wait in a standard queue environment. This can be relatively short -- a couple of bullet points type of thing.

That's a good point!

I will mention that to my DD as I know she can be sensitive to her medical issues and she generally likes to keep it private. I think that my DW's aunt has a developmental disability and my nephew (or DD's cousin) has a developmental disability sorts makes my DD feel a little more private about her condition because she sees folks with developmental disabilities having things much worse than her. And I understand where my DD is coming from.

We did this at City Hall in February, there was no one else waiting, it took less than 5 minutes. The Cast Member was very respectful and kind. She did not want a diagnosis, only a brief explanation as to issues of waiting in line. When my wife started to explain her issue, the CM stopped her and said "nope, I don't need your diagnosis, only what issues you may have waiting in line." Part of that was my anxiety around being able to get my wife out of a crowded que if she had an issue. We didn't always need to use the DAS, but nice to know that we could when needed. After we got it, no-one questioned it when we used it.

if you would like you can write down her needs to wait outside the line on a pice of paper and had this to the CM to read. The can not read a note for her dr but can read one from you.

they do not want diagnosis even if willing they want why waiting in line does not work for her. they will need to take her picture and have any other bands/tickets with you so they can all be added.

We don’t have problem with a picture. Photo identification is a common sense security step, IMHO.

I'm 99% sure my dad's photo last November was with the mask on. The purpose of the picture is to ensure the person using the DAS at the ride is the person who it is assigned to; when a DAS user swipes in, their picture shows up on the CM's kiosk and the CM has to approve it. While anyone in the party can go get a DAS return time set up, the person with the DAS needs to swipe in first when returning to the ride (and the touchpoint colour will change once the CM approves the picture on their kiosk). I think I've read that some people with young children have had the picture of the parent taken instead.

We've also always had to have our entire party present/with their bands when setting up a DAS, but last November they didn't want them at all (I guess they used our friends and family list), which I assumed had something to do with COVID/wanting less people crowding at guest relations (granted, we were the only three there!). But other people during the same time report needing all bands, as per usual. So your experience may vary!

You can also request a DAS at a guest relations outside a park, if you want to do it on a non-park day (you cannot do it at Disney Springs though; it needs to be a theme park). Those lines will also include people queuing to discuss ticket issues, etc, but if you want to take care of it without using park time, it's an option.
