Queue-less waiting system, disabilities, and the GAC...

No, not to replace fastpass, but to replace the long queues and some of the issues people have with them. This new idea gives more people equal access to the attractions - no more worrying about a child who can't wait, or one who cannot tolerate a confined area for a length of time.

If parents have cellphones, I would expect that they could even have one person wait inside the area to see the board, and then they could call the other parent to come in with the child if the games/enclosed area was too much to handle. That could work for KPeveler as well, as that is what he said his family did for him when they checked into a resort, etc.

Of course some guests who are used to having a certain access with a GAC may chafe and think that their needs are not being met, but if WDW accommodates to give equal access, that is fair for all, imo.

I am just trying to plan. I have been in that courtyard, and as I remember there is no where to wait out of the sun (except a few trees on one side) and no where out of the rain (except the queue). I just have no idea the placement of the new games or anything.

I am just trying to plan. Right now I have a powerchair and a GAC to meet my needs, but I know how they handle it at RnR. I am just trying to figure out how to plan for the change.

For example, all waiting for BTMRR is in the sun (for wheelchairs), therefore I only plan on riding that after dark.

I am curious about splitting the party - right now it is just me and my wife going, so that won't work for us (I cant be alone for any length of time - stores and resorts work b/c she is still in sight). But it would help other families.

I also wonder what they will do about rain cover. I dont usually go during rainy season, but you never know when it will rain in Florida.

I am an obsessive planner (you have to be with my issues :) ) So I am just curious!

(P.S. Schmeck - I am a woman, you kept calling me he)

Schmeck,

The cell phone idea is a great one for families which can split up and have 2 adults, they could even just have a "calling program" to call cell phones for families for which your idea does not work, these are staring to become available for resteraunts (you just enter your phone number) sort of like the resorts do for room availability.

I think the important thing to remember is that right now this is just a test. It may not ever actually be used. But if it is then I have faith that Disney will do it right. Right now they are not setting this up in the Courtyard, but basically in an adjoining "lot" that is actually backstage now. I guess something used to be there but isn't anymore. For the tests they have put up several tents as you can see in the photos, but I would guess they would put in permanent structures if they go with this, and hopefully even put in fans to also help with the heat. I am also going to assume that they would put in numerous benches for people to sit, since the point is to keep people from standing in line for so long. I think it would be great if they did set up one waiting area specifically for those with disabilities so there will be a specific area with less crowding. If they are smart (and they are!) they will make sure there is a food/beverage cart with easy access so everyone can buy ice cream and water and sodas and spend as much money as they can. ;)

Since we don't know if this will actually become permanent there really isn't a way to plan. I know how you feel, but until we have a lot more details of how they actually would run this you are going to be anxious over things you can't plan for now and have way more questions than there are answers. Try to relax and have faith that Disney will continue to provide great service. Once they announce this is actually going to happen and we get the details then will be the time to plan for how this will work for you and what accommodations you may need to ask for or how best to work this into your day. Until then even what we know now may completely change as they make tweaks and adjustments based on what they learn in the tests.

I thought they said this is what they are going to use (or some variation) for Dumbo. I never ride Dumbo now, because the wait outside is too hard, but I wonder if they will start using those for new rides...

As long as I can wait away from video games and under structure that keeps rain and sun off, I should do ok... There have just been few reports of people with disabilities actually using them...

lovetoscrap wrote pretty much what I was going to say.

Since this is a test, they may change things, even at this one attraction to try out different things and see how they affect the wait/guests.
I would definitely see this as a work in progress that might change from day to day. I’m sure they are testing out some things for the waiting areas that I have read they are planning for both Dumbo and the Little Mermaid ride in the Fantasyland remodel.

I hope everyone keeps posting as to how it is working an what adjustments are being made.

I think it is important to let Disney know when they come up with a good idea (like this one appears to be) that helps individuals with disabilities and ideas that might make it better.

I think our input is important and I will be happy to let those with oversight of disabilies needs know if I can get some real world experiances and thoughts.

what rides are going to have these queless waiting areas?

We don't know.
They are testing it at Rock N Roller Coaster.

There were some stories that say they intend to do it for Dumbo and the Little Mermaid attraction when they remodel and expand Fantasykand. There were also stories that just said there would be games and/or interactive elements in the queues for those 2 attractions.

OMG!! the bus lift being the scariest ride!!! that is way too funny... love it!!

Disneyland has used an alternate que for disabled guests for many years on several rides. Space Mountain has a long indoor bench area near the exit. A CM takes one or two parties in at a time depending on party size.

At Spash Mountain there is also a seperate que with CM but used only on busy days to limit the number of wheelchairs at the boarding area. It is outside and there are no benches.

Indiana Jones has a que area with CM inside along the exit path about 1/2 way to the boarding area. There are no benches.

I thought it might be interesting to see this thread again since the trials that it discusses were some of the early trials for queue-less waiting systems.

There are rumors that at least some of the new Fantasyland expansion attractions will use queue-less waiting.
