Questions using DVC points for cruise

We are going to be using our points for a 7-day Disney cruise for our honeymoon May 2002 and have a few questions:

1) Does the 11 month window apply for booking a cruise? If so is it 11 months from the day the cruise starts?

2) I understand there is a $75 fee for booking the cruise, is that per person or for the entire reservation?

3) Does MS use the same booking system as DCL? Meaning that do they assign you a room # when you book? DId you have problems getting your room category?

Any other tips would be appreciated, thanks!

We are booked on the Disney Magic May 19,2001 on points. You may book as early as 11 months from the sailing date of the cruise. The $75 fee is per reservation and not per person. When you book through member services, you may reqest a specific catagory. While they have you on the phone, they will contact DCL and confirm a specific cabin. Also, at that time, you may request early or late dinner seating. This is our 2nd sailing with Disney and we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary on this cruise.

Have to warn you though Steve, the points chart for 2002 is'nt yet available. Hopefully by the time you want to book it will be. If not, they will still make the reservation for you, but it will be subject to whatever the point chart is once established. This may be an increase, and makes it hard to plan.
As a result of this, I decided to book my 2002 cruise with cash instead (we are going in February).

Thanks for the info, esp the point increases..didnt even think about that. We banked most of this years points anyways so I think we will be ok. We are planning to send a few days in Vero before the cruise too.

We have taken two 3day Magic cruises with points, and are taking a 7 day Magic cruise with Points this fall. It has always been a great experience. I love the fact that I can use my points to go to WDW or to cruise. I think that Cruising is actually a good value for the points considering you get all of your meals included with the Cruise.

It might not be a good deal in 10 years since the number of points to cruise will keep going up (unlike the points to go to a DVC resort which are "fixed")

I got these great DVC beach towels the first time I cruised. People always ask about them when they see them!

We are also sailing May 19 on the Magic. This will be our second Disney Cruise. We did the 4 day last June. I suggest a room with a verandah you will not be sorry....Twice we stayed in a Category 5 room on deck 7 I would never stay without a verandah!
You will get your cabin number at the time you book your cruise!
I suggest you begin reading the DCL boards. They are very informative and the individuals are willing to answer any and all questions. They helped me so much in planning both my cruises. You must do the Surial Bath at the Spa.........Do a search on the DCL boards for the Surial Bath it's a couples thing!
I will be sailing with Virginia we never met but will be meeting the night before at the Raddison for a BonVoyage Drink!
ENJOY AND GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations Steve on your impending nuptials. :)

You guys are going to love the cruise. We are taking our 3rd cruise this September (1st on on points). Be sure to have MS tell cruiseline about your special event (ie honeymoon). Sometimes a nice surprise will await you in your room or at dinner. In addition, be sure to tell your stateroom hostess and dining room attendants.

We are taking our 3rd cruise on points in October for our 10th wedding anniversary. We have always gotten our category selection. We will even be staying in the same cabin on the Magic in October that we were in on the Wonder in January (not requested).
We told them it was our anniversary. In January, couples were getting cakes in the dining room along with singing servers for birthdays, anniversaries and the like.
You can't beat a cruise for 75 bucks plus points.
