Questions re: new offer to purchase points at AKL or SSR

We are thinking of taking advantage of the offer which ends on Feb. 18 to purchase points at either SSR or the Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas.

We already own 250 points at SSR (use year starts in Oct.) and would like to get in on the AKL while the getting is good. I understand that if we purchase 160 points, we get 160 comp. points plus a minimum credit of $8.00 per point. I understand that if you purchase at SSR you get $10 credit.

When would our use year begin? February? March? or October?

The purchase price for 160 points is $16,640. What is the credit of $8 used for? Would it be applied to the purchase price?

I probably have more questions but, at this stage, I don't know enough to ask them.

Yes, the $8.00 credit would be applied to your purchase price. On a 160 points it comes to $1,280.00 off.

You would be able to choose your UY.

We just bought 250 points on that deal at AKL.. The $8 a point comes off the price but is not counted as a down payment, so you still have to make the downpayment if you are financing.

Also, the use year at AKL this last week was October, but it has been October for a while according to the guide so he said it could change at any time.

So what does that mean exactly, that the Use Year is October. If I wanted a June use year, I wouldn't be able to get it? Does that mean I won't get any points to use until October?

They would like you to use your existing UY but if you buy 160 you can choose whatever UY you want as long as points are available in it. You will also get 2007 points. If you chose a UY that is coming up be sure to make it clear that you want those 2007 points banked or they will expire soon.

If i were going to add on now I would do it on the 17th of feb that way if the new incentive is better they will allow you to switch to the new program. This will allow you to see both incentives.

We are thinking of adding on now, but maybe we should wait. Could you give me a little more info on what you mean?

I thought once you signed on a specific date, you would be held to whatever incentive was available at that time.

FYI we just bought add on AKV points and the only UY available was DECEMBER! They said everything else is literally sold out. We got the 160 points.

They were saying when we bought ours for the October UY that they were close to selling out.. They weren't wrong.. It has only been a few days since we bought our 250 points.

Uh-oh! Does this mean that there will be no points available with an August use year for our add-on?

I called my guide on Friday, but they were out of the office until Monday.

Can anyone that has added on recently to AKV comment on the use year they were able to get.

Well, we just purchased the add on the day before yesterday so that's pretty current. We got DEC UY. But we are on a "waitlist" for a different UY because that's our original contract and we'd like it all to sync up. With AKV, they are selling building by building, room by room with specifically assigned UY so unless one falls through, there is no option for an earlier time.

Okay, new to this DVC thing. so the points are selling out, does that mean I would not be able to purchase points at AKV if I don't act soon? Or does it mean that I wouldn't be able to buy points until the construction is complete?

Each property has a finte amount of points. I would doubt AKV is near being sold out since its been available less than a year. SSR has been selling for over 2 years now. My guess is that they are rotating use years to keep an even distribution.

That being said is AKV is near sell out, you would have to either way to the opening of another DVC property or an expansion at an existing property.

Well, we went ahead and purchased 160 points at the Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas. We also were able to get an October use year to go with our October uy at SSR.

Now we have to figure out how to use our 160 comp points.

AKV is not nearly sold out. Only Jambo house at AKV is nearing sell-out. They still have the much larger Kidani Village to sell, and they haven't even started selling that. And not even all of Jambo House has been declared into DVC inventory yet. And they can't sell what hasn't been declared. Of course, what's available between now and Feb 18th is a different matter.

As for UY, remember that if you get a different UY (minimum 160 points), then that will be a different master contract complete with a different member number and all that entails.

Just an update:

My guide called me tonight and we are able to add-on for an August use year at AKV.

Now just have to finish talking DH into it.

For new contracts I was told they are defaulting to a Dec. use year.

Great. I talked to my guide again too as I am trying to avoid Dec use years (we travel in the fall a lot). Ours was an add on and we got Sept too, which matches our original contract. Yipee. Kath
