We are going on the morning trip of the Golden Eagle on our 6/14 cruise and had a few questions for those who have already done it. I was planning on bringing a beach bag with us with the kids snorkel equip., suntan lotion, camera, those type of necessities...is there a place to put it where it won't get soaked? Also did anyone bring their camcorder, or should we leave that on the ship and just use the camera..Also, are towels provided or should I plan on bringing some? Are there floats of any kind provided once we stop? And also, what about restrooms? Is there one on the catamaran, Thanks so much for all your help!

I sailed on the Golden Eagle about a year and a half ago.

Towels are provided by DCL, so be sure to grab towels at your meeting place on board. Although snorkeling equipemnt is provided, if you have some of your own take it. (I perfer to use my own snorkel) Suntan lotion is a must! Camera, camcorder...I think I would take both. I sat on the front of the catamaran, and it was very much like a trampoline, high possibility of things getting wet, but midship is a safe and dry place. If you have a plastic type beach bag, take it along to keep things dry. Once at the beach, the catamaran anchors, lowers stairs, and you walk to the beach. Water is only about waist deep, maybe a little higher (I'm about 5 foot 4) so another possibility of things getting wet. The crew is great, and make the trip enjoyable. On the way out men help to raise the sail, on the way back it's the women's turn. Be prepared to dance to YMCA on your return trip as you sail pass ALL the docked cruise ships. Remember, you will be sailing to the French side of the island, so clothing is optional.

One last thing, no floats were provided.

I had a great time on the Golden Eagle and hope to do it again in August.

Have a great time!

We did the Golden Catamaran in March 2002. I can assure you that you will have a blast.

You have a shade place where you can put your bag with your sunscreen lotion and your towel. You have to take towel from the ship before to go on the excursion. They have a restroom.

They will serve you non-alcoholic beverage on the way to snorkel.

After snorkel they will serve you alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage on the beach and on the way back and some sandwiches and champagne.

The personnel is fantastic. You will have a blast.

We, too, sailed about 18 months ago and it is still one of our favorite memories. We just had a great time all the way around! I think that how wet your stuff gets depends on the size and force of the waves. We hit some pretty choppy waves cruising out and the folks on the trampoline were completely soaked. It also got wet in the covered area as well. Not a big deal to us but something to consider.

I packed stuff for each of us in 2 gallon ziploc bags and all stayed dry. I was glad I did. Then I tucked the beach bag with all the ZipLocs in one of the storage compartments underneath the tables. You don't know they are there unless you look for them. We were one of the few folks whose stuff was not pretty wet. We brought disposable, waterproof cameras and based on our experience, we would do that again

The only thing I wish I had done was pre-medicated our little girl with children's dramamine. I brought it with me but should have given it before leaving the Magic. She got pretty queasy but the staff were just great about helping her feel much better - I was really impressed.

Have a great time!!

Thank you for all of your responses...We are really looking forward to this excursion...I understand we will be going to a "clothing optional" beach..have warned my DS 13 and DD11, and they think this is "gross"...I am assuming though, that the group of us on the catamaran will stay clothed!! I don't need my DS, in particular, getting "too educated too early"... Jodi

No one "dressed down" on our cruise but there were some folks on another catamaran that were nude and, from other posts I've read, it does happen that you cross paths. To us, the cruisers on the other vessel didn't make a "statement" about their nudity and we didn't either. I don't remember it being much of anything because they simply weren't that close to us to really see much. Now, keep in mind, we had a 6 year old DD who was much more interested in slathering the "special mud" on her Mom than anything else. I hope this helps.
