I have never been to water parks (age 54) and never liked swimming nor water because I hate wearing swimming suit.

Because my adult son wants to go to the water park in November (he has year pass) so I had thought to just stay at the resort and relax and give my feet a break.

However, looking at the tickets at the Park Savers, I can get 5 days + water park cheaper than just 5 days hopper tickets. If I buy from them, I will have water park tix and I don't want it to go to waste.

So I thought I'll go with him and take some pictures of the water park and him.

1. What is the dress code for the water parks? Do you have to have swim suit on? Can I just be in shorts if I don't go into the water?

2. Which water park would be better for someone who doesn't like water but interested in scenery?

3. Did I read that he should take towel from the resort with him?

4. Do you guys take "water proof" camera or regular camera or not take it at all?

5. Should I just forget the water park and stay at the resort?

Thank you

If your choice is either the 5 day with PH or 5 day with water park and you weren't planning on using the park hopper option, yes, I would choose the water park ticket and go along for the day! You can absolutley just be in shorts, you do not have to wear a bathing suit if you aren't planning on swimming or going on slides. I've only been to Blizzard Beach, so can't comment on Typhoon Lagoon scenery, but Blizzard Beach theming is pretty neat, IMHO! Yes, if he takes a towel from the resort, he won't have to rent one at the water park. I never took a camera, but if you aren't planning on swimming, you would probably be ok with any camera you have.

Do you like mini-golf? If so, the mini-golf course next to Blizzard Beach is really fun and you could do that with one of your water park entitlements!

If you have the option of a 5-day base ticket and that's cheaper than adding the water park option, you may just want to purchase that and hang out at the resort.

Typhoon Lagoon is more scenic and has a beach vibe. You do not have to wear a swimsuit, but it is kind of hard to stay totally dry. There is a beach and plenty of loungers scattered about the park. There are several bars (if you drink) as well.

I would recommend Typhoon Lagoon and would definitely recommend you purchasing an umbrella (about $60). This will give you four beach chairs and an umbrella (along with a small table and towels) in a prime location with limited people around because the area is roped off and patrolled by Disney CMs. You will be given a wrist band that gives you and others in your party access to your area (I would recommend the area above the wave pool.) You can relax here, in the shade, and enjoy watching folks battle the big waves in the wave pool.

Do you get a CM to get you beverages/food with the umbrella? Or is just the bigger spaces that buys you that?

We enjoy the water parks for a couple of days. You can wear anything you like! Definitely shoes that can get wet because most of the sidewalks spray water to keep them cool. Both waterparks are fun to explore - TL is tropical and BB is like a winter wonderland. You can hop between both parks in one day using one ticket. Yes, bring towels. They can be rented there too. We take a water proof camera. Also, and I assume this has not changed, if you are looking to save even more $$, a X # of days ticket plus waterparks gives you X days in the theme parks PLUS X days in the water park. So, if you were buying a 5 day ticket that would give you 5 days in a regular park PLUS 5 days in the waterparks. IF you weren't planning to hit the waterpark in the day and a regular park that night, but rather just one per day you would really only need a 3 or 4 day ticket with waterpark. Basically, I would buy the ticket for the number of days you plan to go into a theme park knowing you will have that same number of additional days to go in to the water parks. I hope that makes sense :-)

That is just the reserved table and chairs. The reserved cabana is the one that has a CM bringing you food but that is a few hundred dollars extra.

I have been to both water parks several times and IMHO TL will be better suited to your needs. Much more shade and more scenic. Also, unless you are going Thanksgiving week, you absolutely do not need to spend the money to reserve chairs. We usually went during Spring Break and never had a problem getting an entire cabana for our group. Just get there for RD and you won't have a problem at all.
