So, it appears that my boss has 150 pts that they're not going to be able to use and they expire March 31 (April 2021 points)....I chatted with MS the other day to see if I could take these points and use them toward my March 5-11, 2022 trip and here is what they said.

Q. Are the points borrowed from an earlier year? If so, you cannot take borrowed points.
A. No, these points are not borrowed, they're fresh, baby new April 2021 points

Q. You can use them towards your March 5th trip if we can process the transfer to your account at least 31 days prior
A. OK great - that's Feb. 1st (to give myself 32 days)

EEEKK! I now have a "phone call date" with my boss' wife tomorrow at 4pm to call and do a 3-way call with DVC to transfer their points to ME!!!

(for the record my boss was hoping one of their kids could use the points and some points were used but no one can come up with a trip between now and the end of March and he knew I had DVC and offered them to me for free!!!!!) :rotfl:

Anyway - my questions are:

For my trip in March 2022, I used 306 pts - of that, 281 were Sept. 2021 points, which means that of those 281 pts then I should be able to have all 150 transferred points swapped out and put back into my Sept 2021 UY, right?

and then those freshly swapped out 150 pts of Sept. 2021 UY points, I should be able to bank into Sept. 2022??

I also have a Oct 16-20, 2022 trip - should I swap out any of those points? I know I borrowed 16 pts from 2023 - but I can't put those back, right?

I'm sure (fingers crossed) I'll get a MS person who has all the right answers but I wanted to come prepared with some basic knowledge before I'm just "told" what they're doing with my points and trips.

THANKS genius DVC folks!

Yes, you will be able to swap out all 150 and free up your 2021 points, providing the March trip was made 7 months or less if they are not the same home resort.

If they are both from the same resort, it doesn’t matter and will work fine.

Once you bank the 150, you can then modify the Oct trip to use the banked 150 and the borrowed points, and then it will use any 2022 points needed.

I don't understand that statement - I booked the March trip at the 11 month mark as we're staying at my home resort of CCV so it was booked in April 2021....

is that going to be a problem?

and the points I'm getting are AK points - so I think that you're saying I WONT be able to apply them to my March trip since I booked it with "home" points vs. using a non-home resort points at 7 months out..

ARGH! they never mentioned that to me when I chatted the other day!

You will not be able to swap your CCV points with the transferred AKV points since you made the CCV reservation during the 7+ to 11 month home resort priority period. If the reservation had been made at the 7 or less month window then it would have been allowed.

ARGH! then that means that there is NO reason to take these points then....right?

I mean, why do I want to take the time to talk to DVC, take the points and then not be able to use them??

I wonder WHY MS didnt mention this to me before when I asked my questions and specifically about reshuffling my points for my March trip!!??

ugh

It may not have been something they though about if you were asking specific questions.

But, as mentioned, you can not swap out non home resort points into a home resort reservation that was booked during the home resort period.

So, these will not really work for you.

There could be a way to reallocate those points to your reservation but there would have to be the same type of room available at the time that you make the swap. For example, you have a 7-night reservation at CCV for 306 points (a 2BR villa). Half of those nights would still need to be available to book now in order to use the transferred AKV points in lieu of your current allotment of points.

If there are nights still available then you could book with the AKV points and cancel the nights you had booked with your own CCV points.

Or would you consider a split stay? Is there anything else available you could book either at the start or end of your trip with the 150 points and then cancel the nights you had booked with your points?
