We currently have a 100 point contract with one use year and want to purchase another contract for 100 points through resale that has a different use year. Are there any disadvantages for doing this? Would I be able to use 200 points on one reservation?

Yes but you will have to either transfer points from one contract to the other or book as many nights as you can with one the do the rest with the other 100 points then link them.

We have been able to use multiple memberships for reservations easily for years now without the need to ever transfer points between accounts.

As noted, you can reserve nights from each membership and link them together thru MS. Also, you should be aware of the value of banking and borrowing with contracts of that size. You can have up to 300 points available every 3 years using banking/borrowing from each of those accounts by themselves.

Enjoy! :)

It can be done but they will be two different memberships. You will not be able to combine the points for a single night without the transfer.

If you had to wait a reservation and had to use points from both contracts, you would have to transfer before the wait list even came through.

If they are the same resort, its easier since you can book whole nights from each and then link the reservations, but it does take a little bit of work. We had two UY's at one point, and IMO, it is more trouble than its worth, unless you have a specific need to own two.

Good luck!

Unless you have a very good reason for having more than one UY, I wouldn't bother with it. Twice the work and more to keep track of. Many do it but why complicate things if you don't have to.

I have a hard enough time keeping track of my points from different contracts with the same use year. I couldn't imagine throwing a different use year into the mix!

I'd keep same use year if at all possible. Can't be combined unless you transfer, so any reservation would need to be separate for each set of points as a different use year is a different membership. You'd then, as indicated, have to link the reservations.

Not horrible, but an inconvenience. If you make 2 3-day stays and link you may or may not have to change rooms.
