Hi,

I'm going to Yacht Club in 2013, August. I'm french and i don't know how much do i give ? We are 2 adults and 3 children in the same room. I think to give 5 dollars per night ?

It's very difficult for me because in France, we don't give anything. It's already in the check.

Thanks for help !

I will tell you that you will get very different answers on here. For us, we do a dollar a day per person and if we are needing something extra, we will leave more. Do what feels right to you and enjoy your vacation! :)

Re: Mousekeeping Tips

1) We do not leave tips at WDW for housekeeping.
2) At most hotels, maids are poorly paid.
3) At WDW, the maids are paid well, and in a NON-TIPPED job classification.
4) In fact, they are paid more than many other WDW jobs.
5) WDW maids (per union contract)
. . . make up to $13.18/hr
. . . leave 45-minutes early and be paid for it
. . . make up to $1.00/hr in Flex bonus
. . . make up to $22.00/room incentive pay
. . . make up to $35.00/room incentive pay for DVC rooms
. . . work very desirable schedules versus other CM's

NOTE: On the topic of tipping: Do you tip ride operators who make
less than maids? Do you tip Front Desk or Concierge personnel who
make less than maids? The whole idea of Walt is that everyone gets
treated the same, whether they can afford to tip or not. Plus, he did
not want people to have to tip everywhere they went or for every
service they received.

We also tip $1 per person per night and we leave it out every morning instead of paying for the entire vacation at the end of our stay because there may be a different mousekeeper from one day to the next.:thumbsup2

vyrg, it is up to you if you would like to tip your mousekeepers. :) It is not required, but it is a nice gesture. I was a housekeeper at WDW back in '89 and while I did make decent money for the time (though NOTHING like what Scupper up there wrote, lol), what they make now is still not a living wage in this country. And even back in '89 there were those who tipped well and those who didn't at all. I think it all evened out though, those who tipped made up for those who didn't. Anyway, for me, I personally like to leave a nice tip, daily. We do $5 per day for our family of 5.

If you aren't asking for any special services from housekeeping and you leave your room relatively neat each day, there really isn't any need to tip. Especially for the reasons Rusty Scupper stated.

But if you have smaller children and leave a massive mess each day, don't pick up after yourself and it makes the housekeeper's job more difficult, you might want to leave a small tip.

I don't tip housekeeping when at WDW. My friend Gloria works in mousekeeping and she makes more money per hour than her daughter who works at the front desk of the same resort. She told me the majority of the rooms do not leave tips. There are probably a lot of people online who say absolutely you must tip, its the right thing to do. But in reality, they don't tip. Gloria told me she gets maybe 1 or 2 rooms with tips each shift. I'm not saying anyone is wrong or right, no debates here. Just saying don't feel obligated to tip. The housekeepers are not expecting it. Gloria is a close friend of mine and she has been working there for several years.

We leave $1 per day, per person. It's a crummy job and someone's picking up after me and mine, I like to show my appreciation.

I have always tipped at WDW the same as I do for every hotel, $1 for every $100 of the rack rate for the room per day. For a $150 hotel room I tip $2, for a $400 room $4. $13.18 /hr. is not a lot of money and I will continue to tip mousekeepers.

I do tip concierges when I use their services, I tip bell people (well), door persons, and although never a ride CM I do tip restroom cleaners when I see them (they have a thankless job).

We tip $5/day for our family of four. I realize tips aren't necessary and that they are doing their jobs...but really...I hate cleaning up after my own family, let alone hundreds of others!!!! :crazy2: :lmao: I tip out of sheer appreciation. ::yes::

I wonder if the maids would say they get tipped as often as these tipping threads would indicate.

Just do what you are comfortable with. If it's not your custom to tip, then that's fine. Don't feel like you HAVE to tip if you feel uncomfortable doing so.

If you decide that you wish to tip, then $5 per night for your family is very generous and I'm sure it will be appreciated.

There are some on here with a personal agendas that they feel they need to make every thread asking this question a referendum on tipping.

Tip if you want...or don't tip if you do not feel comfortable. And just because you are reading on these boards that other people tip does not mean you have to tip. Do what YOU feel is comfortable. My friend is a housekeeper at POR and she says she rarely get tips;) $1 per person sounds reasonable if you want to tip, that is what we usually tip.

thank you for all your answers.

I'll do if i'm satisfied. I don't want to be rude if in your country people must leave tips. I understand now.

Thank you and sorry fo my english :)

Like I said before many different opinions on this subject. It is OK to do either. Do what you feel comfortable with. :) I hope you come and enjoy your stay, Enjoy!!!! :)

This is almost exactly what my DH and I do in every instance. We also tip barristas and of course bartenders. I was recently out with a new friend that didn't tip the bartender. I overtipped to compensate.
