Questions about where to eat????

Hello. First and foremost, I am so happy that I found these boards. There is so much information available here for anyone trying to plan the perfect Universal Studios Florida Vacation. I am about 10 days away from my vacation and wondering a couple of things:

1) Do you need reservations for all of the restaurants on property? If not, which ones should have?

2) By staying on property, is it correct that with your key you by pass lines at the restaurants?

That is it for now. We are so excited to start our vacation!!!!

You should get reservations for the restaurants at the hotels, and Emeril's. Most of the other places dont accept reservations.

Your room key allows you to bypass any outside line and/or gets you first available seating.

We just returned from 5 days at Universal RPH and simply loved it. With kids 8 and 6 we did the typical tourist dinners at City Walk. NASCAR Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, and NBA City. NBA City was by far the best. Great food, atmopsphere, and service. It is true that your room card will get you priority seating as you arrive, however we did not have to use it as there was no wait time.
Had dinner with the characters at Islands Dining Room one night. The kids loved the children's buffet. It was a great first visit to Universal and FOTL pass is a great benefit for staying on site.

At Margaritaville, the wait time was cut in half by showing our room key. Good deal!

For a special meal try Mama Della's at Portofino Bay (reservation would help). Tchuop Chop at RPR, also reservation. We love NBA City also. Margaritaville at City Walk for great food, fun atmosphere.

What characters visited at Islands dining room?

I'm not minces4disney but we ate there too earlier this year and enjoyed the characters. We only had Woody Woodpecker and Scooby Doo but my son was so thrilled to see Scooby that it didn't matter to him. The food was great.

Mythos at Islands
Lombards Landing at USF
Tchoup Chop at RPR.
Islands at RPR.


I havent found a Citywalk restaurant that I would recommend, all are sort of mediocre to me.

I'm STILL determined to go to Mama Della's, JR! It sounds sooooo awesome!

Thanks Planogirl! We did a character meal with the same characters. My son is a Scooby lover and enjoyed it so much as well. I was just wondering if they may have recently changed the charaters around a bit since its been scooby and woody for so long.

Robin, rumor has it you will be there in 3 days....get over to Mama Della's! Tell Michael to order a marshmallow milkshake or the hot chocolate. Portions are very large here if you do decide to go. Where ya staying this time? *SIGH* I want to go again too! Have Fun

Hi !

As for the casual, we had no problem 7/3-7/8.

BUT, if you feel Lucky and thirsty, as soon as you get in either USO PARK buy a large drink from any refreshment stand and make sure it is a LARGE with the HULK or what ever action figure for that day on it , look for a 1 inch by 1 +1/2 inch "CHANCE TO WIN !" sticker on the side and peel it off.
The sticker will have some kind of discount .
The discounts run from 20% OFF Meals after 4pm at specific restuarants, 20% OFF of merchandise at gift shops, 20% off
photos like MIB, JURRASIC PARK, ETC.
There are other discounts also.
We averaged $6 -$7 off the total bill at Mel's, and other fast food establishments.
We never asked for the refill each time so I don't know if the sticker is on the refill ?

Get a reservation if there is someplace you really want to eat...especially for weekends and evenings. Yes, your room key gets you the next available table at some of the restaurants...not all of them, but you still can have long waits...remember, other people will use room key only with no reservations, and you could be behind 20 people.
