We're looking to take a trip to Vero Beach this summer.(renting points) Thinking either May or June before the rainy season gets too underway.
Is the resort real busy around that time? Also, I keep reading conflicting reports on the sand.
What's with the sand? It's natural, I know, not powdery.
But is it compacted down everywhere, or loose?
Since it's darker, does it get burning hot??
What are the view catagorys in the 1 and 2 bedroom villas?

TIA

Hello,

This is a very good time of year to go considering most school districts let out in the mid June timeframe. Although with VB even in peak season you won't feel like it is crowded (not like WDW) We have gone to VB in each month from May thru November and we have never felt crowded.

The sand is typical Atlantic coast sand. It is light brown, packed were the water is washing over it and loose and squishy away from the water. Yes, the sand can get very hot. May/June is not to bad, but in August you don't want to forget your flip flops.

Only the Inn rooms have view categories probably building 15 has the greatest likelyhood of letting you see the ocean from the room.

You didn't ask, but I always like to offer my default description of what there is to do.

The resort provides daily activities for kids & adults with the best CMs of all the resorts.

They have a nice pool & Lighthouse w/spiral waterslide, a REALLY cool water play area for the real young kids, a hot Jacuzzi, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. At night they have a campfire / s’more roast (bring the Cutter Advanced to fend off the No-see-ums). You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake, picnic tables, nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area. And of course they have the ocean and great waves for boogy boarding. Everything from the ocean to the pool to your room is no more than 2 minutes away walking. So it is real easy to break up your day

Five minutes away is Pelican Island and a wildlife education center. Also minutes away is Sebastian Inlet were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are many good fishing spots around the inlet, and there are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour away is Cape Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center (with museums, tours, and shows), and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours.

You won't be disappointed with a trip to Vero Beach. I promise. :beach:

One more thing. Is it typical of the Orlando hotels as far as the TV goes? Meaning, nothing but Disney channels and no Pay Per View?

You'll have a typical cable selection of local and national channels. No PPV. They do have VCRs. A little outdated, but they do have them. We have never watched any movies so I can't speak to the degree of selection. Might want to pick up a few at your local store to be sure.

Just realized I was suggesting the wrong bldg #. I should have suggested 12 not 15. After the hurricanes came thru much of the tall vegetation in front of 12 was removed and there is a better line of sight from 12. Here is a resort map.

Would you reccoemnd this building over others...or the slight chance of an ocean view not as important as being close to the pool?

Is building 12 far away from the pool? First time at Vero in March and can't tell form the Map.

We were in building 12 last month. The pool and gate to the beach are located on other side of the main inn building from building 12 so you'll have a short walk to get there. The resort is very compact so nothing is very far away.

We had a 2 bedroom unit on the 3rd floor with a view of the ocean.

As ACDSNY said bldg 12 and the pool are on opposite sides of the Inn so if you are concerned about more quiet and less activity outside your unit then 12 will assure you of that (except during smor roast/sing-along). We stayed in 14 on the pool side last August and it didn't irritate us, but the pool activity was definitely more noticeable. Distance to anything in the resort need not be a factor in your decision.

We have only ever stayed in 14 and 15. We like to arrive early (11am) and it seems 14 or 15 usually have a unit ready. I'm guessing mousekeeping starts cleaning vacant rooms on south end of the resort.

Have a great vacation! :beach:

I prefer Bldgs 15, 12, then 14.... in that order of preference.

Merry Christmas!:santa:

We stayed at VB in the Inn section with an ocean view. Couldn't have been more relaxing and beautiful.

I agree that the activities and CM's are above average at VB. The campfire sounded hokey but we truly enjoyed it and my DD had the best time. She still remembers some of the songs.

Have fun!

We stayed in bldg 12 last May ('06) and the vegetation indeed was low almost looked freshly planted. We were in a first floor 1 bed and we could walk out our patio doors and go easily thru the planting bed, as in a path between plants. But I saw some recent pictures of the vegetation there off the patio and it has indeed grown. 3 or 4 times this past Oct compared to May. if it keeps growing like that there won't be any better view there than anywhere else.

No ocean view by the way from the ground. Not that you would expect it.

We loved the resort by the way. Had a great time in the pool, on the slide and in the kiddie pool/play area.

Have fun. Wish I could go back!!
