I've seen more people using ribbon on their pages, the ones with the staples, like in the pages that Loopner67 posted in the other thread, that I copied over here for visual reference so you could see what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what they are actually called.

How do you do these? Is there any special technique for making these? Do you use just any stapler or does it have to be a special stapler. And also how does the Fastenor (sp?) that uses the metal bars works? I saw that in the scrapbook store today. The Disney ones are pretty cool.

Thanks!

Just cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle, fold in 1/2, and use a regular stapler. I try to get at least one edge of the ribbon with the stapler so they don't pull out. The fastenator is basically a big stapler, I how ever just buy the staples and use them like brads. I poke a hole in the paper with a push pin, push the bar through and fold over the back.

I have also been known to use a bit of adhesive in addition to the stapler.... just in case the staple is wider than the ribbon and doesn't quite catch it.............P

Thanks for the tip. I thought you had to have the fastener machineto use them

Thank you! What do you use to bend the backs with?

I use the popscicle stick from some rubons I used up. Or I use the wrong end of my pair of surgical tweezers...or push with the end of my MM toolkit hammer...basically whatever is handy. :rotfl2:

I think I will try using some ribbons on my upcoming Disney book. I want to scrap my Disney trip, but I haven't gone yet! :lmao: I can't wait to get back so I can scrapbook!!! :) :rotfl:

Wow, that is such a great idea! I've never bought the staples b/c I never wanted to buy the big fastenor thing. :thumbsup2

The one problem with staplers or the fastenator is the limited amount of depth you get on a page too. With just using the bars you can even put them in the middle of the page. I'm like Piratesmate, I just use what ever tool is handy at the time. She's the one that told me about not bothering with the tool itself. :teeth:

I never even look at these because I didn't want to buy yet "another" thing that fastens other things to yet more things! ;) Thanks so much for the tip on this one. :goodvibes

Darn you enablers! I had resisted buying the Disney fastenator staples because I didn't want to buy the Fastenator itself. Now that I know this, I can see I'll have yet another purchase I can blame on these boards! ;)

With the large fastenator, one should be able to reach the middle of the page. If DH wasn't asleep, I would get the one I'm getting for Christmas out and measure for depth. :rotfl:

I was actually thinking of getting the Fastenator so that I won't hurt myself trying to bend down the ends, which is a very likely possibly given that I am a MAJOR klutz!

Now see... my friend and I have looked at those staple thingies and said, "nah, we don't need them". But now that I know I can use them without the special tool... I MUST have them now.

Once I learned that I could use a regular old stapler to add ribbon, I started using it a *lot*. It's so easy! Yes, the reach isn't great, but you can learn to work with it . You can also punch 2 holes with a hole punch, pull the ribbon through and tie like a bow. :)

I looooooove the fastenator idea! I have a hard time using the fastenator with ribbon sometimes because it can be clumsy and hard to get the ribbon *just right* under it. I really like the idea shared in this thread. Thanks!

Are staples acid-free? I'd hate my work to go all rusty!
