I know that not everyone thinks that it is a good idea to use DVC points for DCL. However, if one were to decide to use points for a cruise:

Do you get an onboard discount or credit for rebooking while on board (like cash reservations do)?

If you rebook on board and decide to use points later, do you lose that reservation and have to rebook with MS (thereby losing any discount)?

TIA.

Do you get an onboard discount or credit for rebooking while on board (like cash reservations do)?No OBC for booking on board. You're actually not able to rebook onboard using points. You have I think 3 days after returning to contact MS and get a point discount.

If you rebook on board and decide to use points later, do you lose that reservation and have to rebook with MS (thereby losing any discount)? You loose all onboard goodies at this time, as you only have 3 days from departing the ship to get the DVC point discount.

TIA.
Answers above in red. We've booked 2 cruises on points and think it's a good deal. We bought our points to use as we see fit, not what is the best value for them. Hey, I got a disney cruise for "free" with my points, so that's enough for me!

Thanks, jel0511. What are the typical point discounts for future cruises?

We use our DVC pts for cruising and think it is a good deal. We wait till we go on board and then call and get our discount 3 days after we disembark. Usually we get anywhere from a 16-30 pt discount based on 2 people booking.

Thanks for the replies. We love the parks but love DCL even more. The thought of being able to combine the two experiences and just use points is appealing. If only there were a DCL DVC!;)

If there was a DCL DVC, I would totally be there! No questions asked!

I have never been on a cruise in my life and today we talked about possibly usining points for the Halloween sailing on the Wonder. Well I called MS and boy oh boy was I confused! I must have drove poor Bibi nuts with my questions!!! We decided to not to do it, but it certainly was a lesson!

We're thinking about doing a cruise on points right now. I know everyone doesn't think it's a good deal--but it's a "free" cruise in my head just like a room at a dvc resort is "free". I also don't know if I have the time to rent/transfer points either. It helps that there are only two of us, and that the points chart is relatively favorable in 2011.
