Questions about using a Travel Agent

I have never used a travel agent before. I already have a reservation booked for next summer, but I heard about a great offer and got a quote from an agent. I can just book with the agency and then call Disney and cancel the reservation I made myself, right? Or should I cancel my reservation before booking with the agent?

Also, I got a quote for another trip I have planned in the Spring, but it is the same as the current AP offer so no savings there. Is there any benefit to using a travel agent if the discount wouldn't be any better?

Thanks in advance!

I would secure the new reservation with the TA first, then call WDW and cancel your other reservation. Promos can sell out, so I would definitely secure that before cancelling the other one.

Not if you make your own ADRs and FPs (which I would never trust to a TA anyway). I think there may be an advantage if you have never been and have a good DIsney trained TA. But otherwise I book through TAs when the price is right! With an agent you need to go through them for changes, requests, etc. It's easier to be in control of your reservation, I think. But I definitely use an agent for a good deal.

And I second the above poster, get your new reservation then call Disney to cancel the first.

I use a WDW TA whether or not they have a better deal. I work, and the day WDW promos come out can be crazy with 1+hr phone waits and crashing web site. A Disney specialized TA will know exactly when discounts come out, and will book it for me, without me having to do anything. It saves me time and the service is free.
She also makes my payments for me. All I have to do is send her a quick email. She also books my DME.
I do book my own FPs & ADRs because I prefer to.

I agree. Have the TA make the new reservation and get a confirmation and then cancel the other one.
