Here's my tree situation....We had a sucker tree (is that the right term?) pop up in our yard last summer a few feet away from our neighbors trees. We just left it and it has grown to about 8-10feet right now. Unfortunately is was in a section of our yard where it would be competing with the maple tree and other shrubs I had growing there so we decided to relocate it to a differnt spot in our yard. So husband planted, watered and put a 2foot mulch ring around it and the next day the leaves were all droopy.
Now I'm not even sure what type of tree this is-my neighbor hasn't been home to ask, but they have about 10 of the same tree and they are very fast growing.
So my questions are-Do you think it will be okay? How often should I water it?
Also, is it possible to take a branch from a tree, plant it and it will grow?
Thanks for your help!

That's too bad. Suckers can turn out to be good trees given time. Sounds like it went into shock. They do that. Hopefully it wasn't the hot part of the day and you gave it plenty of water. I just mentioned my Weeping Willows in another post about transplanting trees. I transplanted 3 weeping Willows and they all went into shock dropped their leaves and looked terrible all last year. They're fine now looking beautiful and green. I would wait it out this year. Keep it watered and fed. Was it new mulch? Sometimes mulch is too strong for young trees and bushes. It wouldn't react that quickly though.
I have never rooted a tree from a branch. I know you can graft a tree but the only ones I've done that for was a rubber tree.
Sorry I couldn't help more. Hope it lives.
On Arbor day too!
