Questions about transfer paper for shirts ...

Ok, a few quick questions from a newbie ...

I understand that if you use the dark transfer papers you never have to flip your design. You can always use the dark transfers, even on light colored shirts. Also, anything that is white in your design will be white on the shirt.

Now, with the other transfer sheets, how do you know if you will need to "flip" your design or not? Do all Light transfer sheets need to have the design flipped? Also, I understand that anything that is white in your design will copy clear so then the color of the shirt shows through, is that correct?

OK, last question -- if I have red shirts, can I use the "light" transfers on them? I have a design that I would prefer the white in come through as clear.

The easy answer is - it should say in your directions. Most/all light transfers need to be flipped. But I hesitate to say all because there could be an exception that I have not encountered. Yes, on light transfers, all white (or lack of color) will be clear.

You can use light transfers on any color shirt. But remember, like you stated, that ALL white areas (or areas that lack color) WILL be clear or the shirt color.

One more thing to consider when using a light transfer on a colored shirt... the color of the shirt will influence the color of the transfer once it is ironed on. For example, I used clear transfers on a yellow shirt, my blue print was green when ironed on (I wanted it to be) so there will be no primary colors on a colored shirt using a light transfers, at least not in any way I can figure. So if you have blue on a red shirt, it would come out purple. Just something to consider in your disigning.
