I see that all the services ask for a standard 20% tip. That is pretty simple to calculate... a $100 fee = a $20 tip.

Here are my questions based on the $200 trip...

1) Am I supposed to tip each driver $20?
2) Am I supposed to tip each driver $10? (This seems logical since one way = $100.)
3) Should I just tip $20 on my trip to the resort?

I would think that either 1 or 2 would be correct in case we get two different drivers.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use a company with an automatic 20% tip, even though I agree that a 20% tip is appropriate.

Let's suppose your roundtrip Towncar is $95. On the inbound trip, you would pay the roundtrip plus the inbound tip ($10). On the return trip, you would pay the second tip ($10).

For a $200 limo trip, I would double the amounts.

If you get an inbound grocery stop, or the driver assists you with a lot of luggage, or the driver is particularly pleasant, you may want to increase the tip.

I agree with Horace. I would not use a company that asked for automatic tips. That is your decision. If the driver is a bummer or doesn't help you in any way, don't tip him. This rate + tip started when companies started hiring drivers who couldn't even speak decent English and than started asking you to help with their salary even though the driver was a mess, didn't talk or was just plain obstinate.

The tip is your decision. If you keep rewarding these guys for not giving service you will even get less service. Make the driver work for that tip and you will enjoy your ride in a car service.

Keep this in mind, don't give a driver a tip because it was asked for, but tip him because of the service he gave you.

Butch, in your case tip the driver out and than tip the driver in, but don't give the whole tip to the first driver.

I tip on both legs of my trip, since I may not get the same driver each way. Ususally tip at 20% if I've gotten good service...baggage handling, nice conversation..that sort of thing. Otherwise, I tip much lower..it is not an automatic thing for me. I tip according to the level of service I get.
