If we decide to park-hop, could we take the monorail from MK to Epcot, or vice versa? Is that allowed by people not staying on-site? Would it be faster to just get back in our car and drive from one to the other? Thanks!

You just walk on and walk off...you don't need to show any ID or a room key or anything...as far as I know, anyone at the parks is free to use the transportation system.

everyone is welcome to use the monorail. SOme people even do a monorail tour. Makes for a nice date night..go from resort to resort and smaple the different bars...
To get from Epcot to MK, you'll stop at TTC and switch monorails.

Depending on how late MK is open, we sometimes park at Epcot and monorail to MK and come back to Epcot on purpose (I find it easier to leave from Epcot than MK). You can also do a round-trip just to do the ride through Epcot for fun (DGS is a mega-train fan, so we spend a fair amount of time on the monorail). You can also use the resort boats. You never have to show a ticket to ride any of the transportation (so far).

MK is usually open later than Epcot, so you have to be mindful of that.

If you are changing parks late in the day, and leaving from the second park, you would probably want to drive to the second one.

Just be prepared for longish waits if trying to use the monorail at peak times (park open and closing). Both the resort line and TTC lines can get pretty busy and you can wait quite a while to get on.
