Questions about Tanque Verde Ranch

We (myself, DH and DS - 8) are going in October and have a couple of questions that someone who's been may be able to help us with.

Firstly, is the stop at the store for essential vacation provisions (chocolate, wine, chips etc for in-room enjoyment) when being picked up from the airport a regular thing or something you have to request?

Also, we all already ride European style here in the UK , but 'Western' style is something we haven't tried yet. What do you wear for the rides? Normal jeans (not something you could wear for European style riding as the inside leg seams would rub against the less well padded European saddle) ? We do have jodphurs but fear that they not be 'cowboy' style.

Finally, is lopping what we would call cantering (one gear up from trotting but not flat-out galloping) ?

Thanks

Lorraine

I have not stayed at Tanque Verde Ranch, but I have stayed at a 'Dude Ranch' several times. Jeans are the norm for riding and I believe you are correct "lopping what we would call cantering (one gear up from trotting but not flat-out galloping). That sounds correct. As far as a grocery stop, I can't help you there, as each 'Dude Ranch' is different.
Someone out there able to help?

Hi Lorraine!

I just wanted to add that you are coming at a great time of the year out west here! You should be very comfortable riding out in the desert with our weather in Arizona in October.

I have not been at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch, but I have heard it is great. I used to live just a few miles from it and that area is lovely. Try out www.tvgr.com for their web site.

I haven't stay at Tanque Verde Ranch. It's on our wish list. LOL!

DS11 takes riding lessons. Western of course, we live in Texas! He rides in normal jeans (Levi) and boots. Have to have a shoe with a heel for the stir-ups. He wears cowboy boots.

Lopping IS cantering (one gear up from trotting).:D

That was very helpful! Thanks for the link to Shontell's report. Just as I was wondering what we could do with the kids (earliest we could go would be 2004 but DS would still be only 6) I read about dropping them off--hurray! Perhaps this will be an option for our year I promised DH to tradeout--I'll add it to the list with Cayman, Hawaii and Aruba.
