I've got a few questions about changing resorts at the 7 month window.

Let's say that I book my home resort of AKV at the 11 month window to be sure I have somewhere to stay. But I really want to stay at SSR, so I call at the 7 month window.

Is there a way the Member Services rep can check to see if SSR is available before cancelling my AKV reservation? I don't want to borrow points temporarily to book at SSR since borrowing is non-reversible. Or is it just luck of the draw and the rep cancels my AKV before putting in my SSR request?

I just don't want to wind up with no place to stay, LOL. This is for early December, so that's why I'm concerned about availability.

Definitely.......is you have used points to book you AKV stay but want SSR. They can check availability and if there is they can cancell the AKV and use the points for the SSR stay. You wouldn't have to borrow points to get this done.............this is a common practice for many members that want to stay outside of their home resorts.

Good news! We just bought last November, so we've never stayed anywhere but our home resort. I'm glad that they can check availability before cancelling. I wouldn't want to be homeless, LOL!

Just did that very thing today. Had my reservations for AKV set for April spring break (4/5/09) and they checked BCV for availability. It was available, so MS put me on hold for 3 minutes while she did the switch. (Canceled AKV and booked BCV).
I have to say that MS did a very good job with the change. Very quick, no point problems, very pleasent to talk with. I've seen some MS bashing on here ocasionally (which certainly can be valid at times) but just thought I'd post a "thanks" for a nice quick transaction. It's only fair to post the good results as well.

At the 7 month switch time, you have a "moment" of uncertainty. You call and find out if other resort available for time you want. If so, MS then cancels your first resort and then makes a new ressie for new resort. Your moment of uncertainty is between the time they tell you there is availability and the time they actually make the new ressie during which it is actually possible for that second resort or a day for it to become unavailable because someone else talking to another CM at the same time as you gets the time. Won't usually be a problem but someone posted earlier how they called to make a switch to BWV boardwalk view, were told it was available and it disappeared in the about eight seconds it took to conduct the switch.

Thanks everyone!

I'm figuring that the few seconds between the transactions probably won't come into play for an SSR studio since there are a bunch of them. But I can see what you mean about BWV boardwalk view easily though.
