Questions about son flying alone

We are leaving tomorrrow for Florida,but my 17 year old has to be at a bowling tournament in Indianapolis until Saturday.Will he need anything other han his drivers liscense to board his plane on Saturday night???
He is nervous because he has never flown and I am not sure what to tell him.

my son is competitive bowler too. We're kind of new to all of this but a good friend of his is going to Indianapolis for some type of " jr gold" tournament? Is this the one your son is attending? We spent last weekend in lovely downtown Brockton Ma in the bowling alley!! Wish you son luck for me!!

He's under 18, all he'll need is his boarding pass. Technically he doesn't even bring that, it can be printed/re-printed at the airport.

It'll be quicker and easier to show his drivers license rather then explain he's under 18 and doesn't need to show ID.

Actually, anyone over 4 can fly unaccompanied. The age up to which the airlines charge an "unaccompanied minor" escort fee will vary up to age 15, but that age is on the high end. SWA, for example, doesn't impose those restrictions past age 11.
