I'm seriously thinking of trying it. I have the bare details, I think. So...can someone fill in the middle? Please? And meal/food ideas like examples would be appreciated too. Please and thankyou! Are there recipes?

PHASE ONE: 2 weeks. normal-size portions of lean meat, fish, eggs, reduced-fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts, and plenty of vegetables. Snacks and desserts.

Chicken? Beef? What kind of veggies, snacks and desserts?

PHASE TWO: Until I lose the weight. reintroduce the right carbs, such as whole grains and most fruits. Some indulgences are allowed.

So? Can I eat everything on phase one plus whole grains (what kinds) and fruits (what kinds?)

PHASE THREE: Continue making good choices the rest of my life.

Hi there,
I just started South Beach today! I think it is going to be really great for me. I have trouble with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and this is a risk factor for future diabetes so I'm really excited about getting my eating in line with what will help me prevent current and future blood sugar issues. I also have 30 pounds I would like to lose but my primary goal on SBD is to feel better and have more energy.

What you outlined in your post was a pretty good summary. In my opinion you really do need to buy the book The South Beach Diet if you are going to follow the eating plan. It outlines which choices (types of vegetables, types of snacks, etc.) are best. Also there have been some updates to the plan since the book was written--you can subscribe to the South Beach Diet website to keep up with things, if you don't mind paying the 5 bucks per week; also there is a South Beach Diet cookbook that I am going to go and buy this evening.

Many members of my extended family who have struggled with their weight for years have lost a great deal of weight on SBD (or their own modified versions of it) plus exercise, and most have kept the weight off long-term. So I am excited about this!

Good luck with this endeavor.

Thanks, happy Mommy. I will get the book...and the cookbook. I want to be healthier and have more energy too. Any weight lost is a bonus!

Good luck to you too and thank you!

Hi Tigger
I am also doing SBD. I would also recommend you read the book. I would check it out of the library first if you need to. Also Prevention magazine has a good area devoted to the south beach diet at http://www.prevention.com/category/0,5775,s1-4-86-0-0-0,00.html. It will give you the food lists for each phase. I dont know if they have the updates though. You can get them in the free portion of the south beach diet official web site www.southbeachdiet.com/updates.asp. I would also suggest you go over to the south beach diet thread here on WISH. There are a great buch of people there.

Hi again TigerCheer--just wanted to say that I went to the bookstore and looked at the SBD cookbook and didn't buy it. It just didn't have many recipes that would suit my family (we have two small kids)--the recipes looked tasty but most were a little too "gourmet" for my crew's tastes. However, I've been looking at the lists of acceptable foods for phase 1 and it's pretty easy to come up with recipes of my own or modify recipes I already have, to fit into the plan.

So far so good with phase 1. I felt yucky yesterday but today is day 3 and I'm feeling great! The plan has been pretty easy to stick to and my husband (who is thin as a rail but would like to start eating more nutritiously) is on board now too so that is great.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on the cookbook. I appreciate it...and I think I will modify my own recipes now that I know.
