I'm thinking about staying at Ron Jon's the Friday before our cruise. (We leave Sat. morning). Before I make my reservation, I have a few questions hopefully some of you can answer:

1. How far is it from the *real* Ron Jon's shop and the Cocoa Beach pier from the resort?

2. How did you get to the port in the morning? (They don't have a shuttle.) Is a taxi an option? ($$?)

3. Were you allowed early check-in? (We'll be there between 8 and 9 am)

4. I know my daughter will enjoy the pool and lazy river, but I would like to surf while we're there. How far is the beach?

5. If you took a shuttle or limo to Ron Jon's from MCO - how much was it?

6. Most importantly - did you enjoy your stay???

Ok, I think that's it! THANKS!!

The shop is in Cocoa Beach, just off 520 about 10 minutes from the port.

The resort is "down the street" from the port...probably about 5 minutes from start to finish...it is along the same road that the restaurants (whose names escape me at the moment are on). You hop onto 528 for a millisecond and then hop back off and you are at the ship. About a 10 minute drive to the shop.

They have a beach onsite--a bit of a walk depending on the building you stay in, but they have a "shuttle" service around the resort. A trolley or golf cart or something (I think both actually based on the time share tour I went on). Not sure on surfboard rentals and the like. There are board rentals over at the Cocoa Beach Surf Company located in the parking garage adjacent to Ron Jon's Surf Shop as I am sure elsewhere in Cocoa Beach.

That's all I can offer as I never have actually stayed there.

About 1,000 miles...The original Ron Jon Surf Shop opened in Long Beach Island, New Jersey in 1961.   :wave2: :rolleyes1

We stayed at the Ron Jon Resort last week and it was lovely. The staff was great and we were able to check in early(but they were just reopening after being closed for many weeks from the hurricanes so the resort was not crowded) The pool is beautiful but we did not use it as it was cool and breezy the couple days we were there (and since we live in AZ we are used to HOT weather) My children really really enjoyed the putt putt golf and huge indoor (mcdonalds style) playroom. In addition we had a room that overlooked the channel (pool building) and we could watch the ships come and go (the magic came in at 4:45 and I just happened to be up to see it). The beach in my opinion was not that great but I much prefer the gulf and caribbean beaches to the Atlantic. I did not see any surfboards to rent on the beach. (keep in mind that the beach might not have been that great due to recent hurricanes)
We had a rental car, but I'm not sure I would stay here without a car...didn't notice any restaurants near (its located in an industrial area by the B pier). We did do take out from their restaurant and thought it was tasty.

 That's a funny one, sweet angel.

Jennifer, I am definitely renting a car. I do want to rent a surfboard and surf - it's been years since I've been able to do that in warm water. (Our water here is too cold!!) Seems like everything is a lot closer than I thought - just a few miles from Ron Jon's Resort, which is nice.

I ditto the comment on Cocoa Beach Surf Co. for a board to rent. Looked like they were doing a good bit of rentals the day we visited the shop.

Bay area...BRRR, we lived in Monterey for a while and I never could get used to the weather there. Not sure I'd want too surf in that area anyway, just too many sea mammals in the water and you know what that means...:scared1: sharks.

Ron Jon (the shop) also rents surfboards. Their rental shop is just north of the big store, across the side street.

Dave! I actually did most of my research at your site. Very informative - even for a first-timer like me. Thanks!!!!

Update: I ended up getting a great deal with the Radisson, and am now booked there. I will still rent the car to get from the airport to the port, and to hang out all day Friday, so I can go rent a surf board and all that fun stuff before I return the car. The Radisson will take me to the port in the am.

Thanks to everyone for their input. :teeth:
