Hi Everyone,

I am in the market for an elliptical machine and wondering what is the best way to go about it? What is the best brand? Should I be looking to purchase online or should I purchase at a store? What is a good price for a good-excellent quality machine?

I am open to all comments and suggestions. Don't know where to begin! Thanks.

Hi! I don't know about price because I'm not in the country but I wouldn't go cheap. I bought one from a co worker, one from something like TV Shop and while it may have been alright for a shorter, lighter person it was to wobbly and toy like for me. I've been looking a a lovely one in a shop but haven't purchased yet because it's so big yet really sturdy. My advice is to get the quality machine that you can afford, one with the heaviest swing wheel (if that's what it's called in the states) and adjustable foot peddles. I think too, a magnetic swing wheel or something like that was best but I'm not sure.

Good luck!

I have a Nordic Track elliptical from Sears. I really like it. I totally agree about not going cheap. I had a cheaper version from a big box store. It broke on me in the middle of a workout and I went flying across my basement. It was not a fun time! I was well below the weight limit and I had it put together by the store. The Nordic Track is alot more sterdy and much quiter. Good luck!!

My husband and I researched for months last fall in trying to decide what to buy. There are so many different options that it will make your head spin! That said...after all of our research, we decided not to go with a cheap model. I would have loved to have a precor (over 4K) but that was out of the question budget wise. We ended up buying a Sole E55 and absolutely love it! It is not their top model but definitely not bottom of the line either. My husband is a big guy at 6'4 340lbs and he can use it comfortably as can I at 5'8. It has various inclines and resistance levels. It was over $1000 but was well worth the money. You can try them out at Sears if you want to actually get on one and test it out.

I got a great deal on my Nordic Track at Sears on black friday two years ago. I paid $399 for it, with free delivery to my house. I had my eye on it for months and the lowest price I say was about $600. Once I saw the black friday ad, I pounced! Its certainly not top of the line, but it does what I need it to do.
