We are heading to LA in November for the Mexican Riviera 7 night Cruise and I was wondering if anyone can give me ANY INFO on how the boarding process is there. Have gone out of Canaveral 6 times so we have that one down, now LA is something totally new for us.

We fly to LA on Friday and are getting a hotel in Anaheim to visit Disneyland on Saturday, then board the ship Sunday. Will be returning a rental car as well.

Anyone who has any helpful info or suggestions please pass them on about this cruise....THANKS:goodvibes

For us, the only tricky part was our newbie cab driver trying to find the place. It helps to know how to work the GPS navigator. :confused3 You'll be looking for the Port of Los Angeles in the city of San Pedro. It's named Los Angeles because that's the county it's in.

Other than that, the port is large, services several cruise lines, and embarkation is as simple as Port Canaveral.

When you enter the terminal, you go up an escalator. Then you are in the checkin area. You stop to fill out the health questionaire, then are directed to the appropriate line for checkin (CC members on the right-hand side, first time cruisers on the left). Then you go through security (to the right), they hand you your boarding number at this point. On the other side of security is a room full of chairs, the kids club sign in table, a photo op (not always manned) and a few vending machines. When they call your boarding number, you line up to have your KTTW card scanned, go through the doors and turn left. There are 2 embarkation photo locations there, then you board using the gangway on your right.

we sailed this year out of Port of LA San Pedro and one thing we learned (or were taught) is that the porters are not Disney Employees and please do make sure you tip them well!

We did not tip the porter when he took the bags out of our car, but then found him a few minutes later to tip him, in that time he had already removed all of our identifying tags from our luggage which delayed our luggage arrival in our room and caused us to spend most of the first evening waiting and calling guest services while stewards searched everywhere.

Now we know.

Wow. That is very bad form on the porter's part, and I hope he was grateful for the fact that you did show up later to tip him. And remorseful enough to not feel the need to be so vindictive to other passengers who were not quick enough or honestly didn't know.

About the health questionnaire -- We have seven people in two connecting cabins. Four of them are children. Do we fill out a separate form for each person, or one for the whole party?

Do you answer any health questions verbally? My son, age 8, thinks it is hilarious to answer questions wrong and loves to talk about throwing up, so I can just see him calling out that he has been sick when he hasn't. I'm hoping he doesn't have to answer any questions!

The lead person on each reservation (room) fills out the questionaire for the room. Just check "yes" or "no". Pretty much all they ask is if anyone in the room has had a fever, diarreaha, or vomiting within the previous XX days (I don't remember what the period was, I want to say 2 or 3 days).

You might explain to your comedian son that answering wrongly to these questions (or even trying to be funny) may mean that at least he, if not everyone will not be able to cruise. I think at 8 he should be able to grasp the seriousness of this. Much like talking about hijacking or bombs in an airport.

It is a nice port and once you find the ship it all proceeds in Disney fashion. If you can do a Disney transfer in Anaheim that is even better cause they do all the Disney magc for you like your luggage and dropping you off in front of the port. One you get in it is nice and I have been there twice and ever waited. Parking s easy but kind of hard to find at first. Allow extra time because of LA traffic no matter what day of the week. How exciting have fun!

Absolutely. He will be warned repeatedly. Unfortunately, he likes to test new rules just to see what will really happen. Even though this never turns out well for him, he often can't resist. He did well in the airport the last time we flew, so I think he'll be fine. But there is a little part of myself that will be holding my breath until we get past all checkpoints. He's not an easy child to parent, and we have to be very strict with him, but I think he will be an entertaining adult.

Is there a rental car place near the port? Wee flying into Ontario and staying at a good neighbor hotel for a couple if days.

I think there's an Enterprise Rental office there. According to their website, the address is 235 W. 6th St.

We called Enterprise and YES there is an office near port. We were told they are only open till like noon on Sundays and ONLY when ships are sailing out of port so we have to call back again soon to set up a rental to pick up at LAX and drop off at the port.

Does the Wonder always berth at pier 93? That's where DCL says she's going to be for our Pixar cruise in October.

Thanks for all of your help PrincessShmoo, you are a font of knowledge!!

I think there was one time that the Wonder docked at a different pier, but 93 is the one I've always seen her at.

This particular Enterprise is at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. I don't know if you can use the Crowne's shuttle to get to port or if Enterprise offers a shuttle. Please post if you find out how to get from Enterprise to port.

Also, be sure to check if there is a one way rental drop fee for this location. I know my sister was going to rent a car to drive down for our November cruise and she was quoted a hefty one way drop fee.

The porters are not Disney Employees at any port including Port Canaveral.

That's awful.

Wow. This guy should be fired, period. Disgusting.
