Okay, I'm trying to finalize the Christmas lists around my house. I am considering the PSP for my almost 12 year old daughter. Does anyone have one of these and what can you tell me about them? One question I have: can the PS2 games be used in the PSP? TIA!

PS2 games cannot be played on PSP. Totaly different format.

I don't have a psp, but everyone that I know that does, loves them. The gaming is great for a handheld, you can use it as an mp3 player, and I was surprised to see the fairly wide selection of movies that you can purchase and watch on them. What I have no idea about is the wireless internet capabilities.

Thanks for the advice. Now, I guess I have to look and see if there are enough PSP games that my daughter would be interested in.

My DD12 has had hers for awhile and thats what we use when she needs a timeout (we just take that for a day or so ) .
They are easy to use ,MP3, pictures, movies, and games it does it all.Great for trips and fits in the SAFES at WDW.

Okay, so now can someone give me a rough estimate of cost for the unit and average cost per game?

I would warn you to think about how much they will want to use it for games vs. how much they will use it for movies.

There are better game handheld game systems out there and you can buy a much better and bigger portalbe DVD player for the same price.

Oddly enough I was just looking at the toys r us video game catalog.

PSP value pack $249.99 game, ac adapter, battery pack, 32 mb memory card, soft case, ear buds, remote control and carrying strap.
Games - 39.99
Movies - 17.99 - 29.99

Good point. Not sure what you are referring to, but the Nintendo DS, is half the price. The selection on Non-sport and non-shoot 'em up games seems to be larger. DW teaches middle school, and a lot of kids love those dogs.

I was thinking of the DS. The PSP screen is a little bigger, but not THAT much bigger. The games on the other hand are similar, but cheaper for DS.

When talking movies, there is no comparison. Movies purchased for PSP can only be played on PSP, and the screen is tiny when compared to the portable DVD players you can buy for much less.

Essentially you can buy a Nintendo DS and a portable DVD player for the price of a PSP. It's what we did.
