This is a question about the trade threads where someone puts in everything including their brother and the kitchen sink into on a single thread. I find them so confusing to keep track of, especially when they run over a couple of pages. Sometime the owners doesn't update the front page but will update it deep in the thread. I just don't have the time to read these messive long thread everyday. Sometimes when I want to trade for something on the front page, I can spend hours and days reading the thread just to find out it was trade already or it just disaapeared from the thread.

My questions are:
1) For the owners of said thread above, how do you keep track of the 2-3 dozens of items and trades you have going all at once?
2) Are you collecting more in trade for a single item by using these messive threads?

3) For the people who are reading and trading in these messive threads, do you like these type of threads?
4) Are you getting a good deal in return for your item?
5) Are the owners of the thread getting back to you in good timely manner?

I can't speak to the first two questions, but from my experience if the owner keeps the front page list updated it is helpful for me. I know what I'm looking for and if they have it. Also, it helps if they have a list of what they are looking for. So I guess that kind of answers your third question.

Number four. I believe the trades I have made are fair for both parties involved.

Number five. The owners have gotten back to me in a timely manner. Of course, life happens to us all, but generally they are quick to respond.

Heya, Cat!

I did my own fairly long trade thread just last week and found it easy to control, as long as I checked it twice a day. Once the better trading items were gone, I closed the trade to save the lesser items for another time.

I think I did fairly good trades, but then again, the items I had were highly sought after.

As a 'buyer', I have had many instances where the trader never responded to my offers, in which case I will never offer on their trades in the future, no matter what they have to trade. I find it very rude. Yes, there are a few like that on this forum.

I don't mind the huge trade threads, but I agree that the original post should show updates. I won't page through looking for one item in a sea of 5 pages of trading.

I won't trade if I think I'm getting a bad deal. I find the single item traders to be a bit more greedy in their wants, at times. Judgement call, I guess.

Okay, I've answered most of your questions, but out of order. LOL Hope it helped somewhat...

As a general rule i prefer looking at long lists of trade items rather than spend hours tracking down 3 or 4 items I may want. I also find bargaining on multiple trade threads much easier since you can see what the owner has and offer something that isnt listed.

I agree with everyone about keeping the trade list updated.

And I have had both quick responses and no responses when I post in threads or pm

I have a few threads open and I keep my list updated. I check at least twice a day, if not more to my threads.

The only thing I haven't figured out is how to get a thread closed, so on the first post I update by saying the thread is closed.

here is what i think

1) for me i just read then once in the morning before school and once at night and post every time i read

2)sometimes yes sometimes no

3)yes because they are the oly kind i can find

4)when i make these most of the time i dont get very good trades and i end up trading with some one on VMK instead

5)some times yes most of the time no

OK, I got it partially right. I had a long list of items that I was trading for credits. I always kept the front page updated. I thanked people for the trades they did with me within the thread. I have not however, always kept up with the trades within the thread as i should have. I try to reply to ppl in a timely fashion. Sometimes life gets in the way. I try to follow-up with PMs and many times if I've snoozed, I've "loozed".

I know right now I have several PMs in my in box from people who wanted stuff and for a multitude of reasons, they are not complete (that's how I kept track of things, btw, I used PMs).

As to the how much I got as part of these, because I was often trading large quantities of things, I often discounted things for people who were buying a lot of stuff. Even if "prices" went up, I honored prices previously posted. All in all I did great, and people were very nice.

Hi Cat!

1) I have only ever done two large trading threads with LOTS of items. My last one, of a few weeks ago, had literally 150 lines of items, all with differing quantities of each.

I kept track by using a database, of who and how many, ONLY when it was confirmed they were trading. That allowed me to easily keep the first post list updated every time I was on. I did get on as often as I could so I could respond quickly to both posts and PMs.

That database table was invaluable! I believe because I could keep the first post updated, brought me more traders. I never once had to bump the thread!

2) I never would have done any trading if I had listed them in separate threads, would have taken me years to post them all! So credits in multi-item trades were not an issue. Besides I was not trying to turn a profit, but instead move this stuff out, to peeps that really could use it.

3) As for looking at other's threads for what I want.. doesn't matter to me, if they are single or multiple listings.

4) I like to think I am.. but if I really want something, I am willing to take a loss.

5) No sometimes the owners don't get back. That is so frustrating, it is why I was on so very often to keep up with my own trade thread.

1) For the owners of said thread above, how do you keep track of the 2-3 dozens of items and trades you have going all at once?

I have a list- and as I make a confirmed trade agreement I mark the items as pending in trade in the first post and then when traded I update the list as traded and also update the numbers I have. In my current huge thread- I only intended to do rooms- but then I did a character search and even got extras from dh's character- and decided I should offer up the hats and costumes I had- and then decided- I have way too many pins and should offer those too- actually many people were looking for things. In my thread my "pending" and "number of items" are in white out next to the items- in a previouse thread of hats- I updated with colors- but it was more work to edit- so I decided to try this way- I can easily check for what is being traded and what isn't... I also keep a list of pending trades on paper- so I can make sure I'm giving/getting what was agreed on in the original trade.

2) Are you collecting more in trade for a single item by using these messive threads?

To be honest- I don't think I am- I tend to not know how to value things too much- lots of times I take trades for things that are much less than others- it always seems to amaze me how- I can ask for a little more and get told I'm asking too much and see other people trading the same items for tons more than I'm getting- maybe I just have sucker on me- and maybe I think- hey if this person really wants it- I want them to have it- so I'm will to trade for less- but it does sometimes peeve me a bit when I see that someone trades with me for a lot less than I could have gotten from someonelse (but give me a sob story of how much they want it) and then trades it off right away for way more than I got- just annoying- and I know I'm being played- but usually I do these trades to decrease my inventory and maybe get a few items I want- but rarely to make a big profit-

I will usually take some of the things I have left over and gift them to Secret Associate to give later too.

3) For the people who are reading and trading in these messive threads, do you like these type of threads?
I like that I can see if I can get more than one thing at the same time without having to keep track of a bunch of trades.

4) Are you getting a good deal in return for your item?

Sometimes yes- sometimes no- it completely depends on the trader and the tradee- I will often look at a list then look at the wish list they have and if I don't have those items I won't even offer for them... Also if I see other's offers that are way more than I'm willing to part with I won't offer either- with large trade threads- it is harder to track who is trading for what from the tradee perspective (I don't want to read all those messages) So I may offer when I wouldn't on a smaller trade thread

5) Are the owners of the thread getting back to you in good timely manner?
Some yes- some no-...
From the owner perspective- I don't like doing pm's to haggle for items- I prefer to use the posts- and often someone will place a offer on a thread and then never look back to see if it is accepted/declined etc- And if I accept their offer- I feel obliged to leave the item in limbo. I've also had some trouble trading items because of a schedule thing- and get frustrated when I can't meet people on their schedule- I've had a few people that do not respond to pm's to set up a scheduled time to meet- or say a range of time and I wait around in my room alone and the trade doesn't happen. I know for some things I don't mind so much waiting around (either I have a lot or it really isn't rare) but for others- I am getting much bigger offers later and feel obligated to the original person...

All good questions Cat...

How do prices go up? Where do you find a set price on things?

I look through the trades thread and see what ppl are getting/giving/offering. I use these as a basis for my price. I will also contact "primo traders", that is, people who do lots and lots of trading, and ask their opinion on whether what I want to ask for something is a fair price for both parties. Credits are a bit challenging to determine for something. Say a host pin for a pin series: the other pins in the series cost 500 credits each; the host pin is more difficult to get; the series is retired; so is 750 for the regular pins and 1500 for the host pin acceptable? I have no clue. I look around in this thread and I ask the "experts".

As time goes on, some series become more and more scarce. Take the water park pins for example. Dumbo here traded her last surfing pin away thinking she had more on DH's character. Well guess, what? I didn't! I know I sold some of them early in the process, but that was six months ago. From what I've seen, it will take me three times what I got for that pin to replace it now.

That's some of what goes into the prices. I tried to be fair, using all that information as a basis. Was I always successful? No.
