We have a short 4 day trip planned for Dec 10th 2009 staying on 2009 DVC points.

I am worried about the sick kids with H1N1 going around.

If we have to cancel a few days before hand I think our point go into holding?

When would we have to use them by or do we lose the immediately.

Any thought on trip insurance? I guess I can change my flights and our park tickets would still be good.

Any thought?

Thanks

Jim

Read about how to use Vacation Points from a previously changed reservation.
Any time you change or cancel a Disney Vacation Club® Resort reservation 30 days to one day before your scheduled arrival date, the Vacation Points used for that reservation are put into a Holding Account.

Any time you change or cancel a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation 30 days to one day before your scheduled arrival date, the Vacation Points used for that reservation are put into a Holding Account.

What you need to know about using Holding Account Vacation Points:

You can use these Vacation Points for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as you book the reservation 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

  • These Vacation Points can be used for an exchange during your current Use Year in two ways:
    • For The Disney Collection (except Disneyland® Resort hotels in California), Concierge Collection or Adventurer Collection if you're making the reservation more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year for a check-in date that is 60 or less days away.
    • For Disneyland Resort hotels in California and the World Passport Collection as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.
  • These Vacation Points cannot be banked or borrowed.
  • These Vacation Points must be used to complete travel by the end of the Use Year or they will expire.

What is your use year? Which airline is your reservation on? SW is about the only airline who will allow a change without a fee.

UY is April. Jetblue is airline.

With an April UY, you have until November 30th to bank your points but would have to cancel at least 31 days out to still take advantage of this.

If you cancel between 30 and 1 day, the points will indeed by in "holding" and can only be used to book reservations through March 31st, 2010, 60 days or less out.

As far as trip insurance, I have bought it for my airfare before but didn't have to use it so I am not sure how it works. I remember it not being that much and because there was a chance when I booked that I might need to cancel (we weren't sure if my dad was going to need heart surgery), I bought it that one time.

Jet Blue is going to charge you $100 per ticket to change your flights, plus any increase in fare.

I'm not a big fan of insurance but with this flu going around, it might be a good idea. Depends on the premium for the insurance if it's going to be worth it.
