My wife and I are wanting to take the kids skiing this spring break and were thinking about Keystone Resorts. One is it a nice resort? We were looking at the River Run Deluxe 2bdr's and was wondering if anybody knew which ones these are so I can see them before I book at M.S. on the Keystone website. This is the first time I have done this so I am trying to keep from making a mistake. We were also looking at the Marriot next to Heavenly in Tahoe. Any advice or opinions is appreciated. I do understand the opinion that this is not a good use of points. But this is what my family does Ski and Disney World.

Thanks
Sam

Do a search for Keystone under the DVC resort and you will find some info including someone who just returned.

We live in Colorado and our kids really enjoy Keystone. If you go to the Keystone website they have good maps showing where the condos would be.

I have a friend that owns a unit full time in River Run. I think it's a 1 BR, 2 BA. He rents it through a company when he's not using it. He told me to let him know if I wanted it sometimes, I'll get around to it eventually.

Haven't stayed at either, but have seen them both.
River Run is a new area at the base of one of the gondolas. The restaurants, shopping, and condos all looked first class.
The Marriott Timber Lodge (timeshare) and Marriott Grand Residence (I think this is a quarter share) are adjacent and have a gondola between them. They are in California on the main street about a block from the Nevada casinos. They are brand new (opened last fall I think) and really looked nice.

We've been to Keystone a couple of times using points. I get confused about Premium & Deluxe at Keystone, so I hope I get this right. Our last trip we stayed in at 2 br at The Timbers, a River Run Premium location. The Timbers are located at the base of the mountain, just steps away from the gondola, very private & quiet, a short walking distance to the River Run village. The Timbers is a ski/in-ski/out resort. The accommodations are top of the line, very nicely decorated, very spacious & luxurious.

Previously we stayed in a 2 br River Run Deluxe. This area is not ski in/ski out but is only a short walking distance to the gondola. There are numerous condo bldgs in this category in the River Run village area, shopping, restaurants, night life, etc., and a short walking distance to the gondola, chair lift, ski school, ski rental. The room was small & cozy, nothing like what we're used to at WDW but it met our needs. It was nice, just not luxurious & spacious like The Timbers.

The point difference was considerable. Point value was around 160 for our 4 night stay at a River Run Deluxe and over 300 for a 4 night stay at The Timbers. If you go to the Keystone website you can see the locations of the different categories and see photos of the rooms. River Run Condominiums are the deluxe resort.

We're hoping to go again this year either the few days after New Year's or Spring Break, haven't decided yet. We'll do the Deluxe accommodations this time. The Timbers were a nice splurge once, but not worth the excessive points repeatedly.
