Questions about Disney Cruises

We just found out that our DD was approved by Make-A-Wish! :cool1:

We now have to help her come up with her wish. This is the hard part because DD is non-verbal and has severe cognitive and physical delays.

We've taken her twice to Disney World and she loved it even though there were many things that she could not do/go on. We were thinking that she may like a cruise but I have no idea how handicap accessible they are.

Can anyone give me an idea of what a typical day would be like?

Thanks!

Hi! I've been on a couple of Disney cruises, but can't actually speak of the accessability. Just wanted to say that you may also want to post your questions in the Disney Cruise section.

Congrats on her getting a wish, though I am very sorry she is so sick to be able to get a wish. :( I've only known one MAW child intimately and he was able to do his wish at WDW.

As for your question, I think DCL is very accessible. If you go on the cruise board, there are lots of folks that can help you who have sailed. The disABILITIES board is a good place as well. This way folks will more likely notice your inquiry and be able to provide specific information.

Best of luck and I hope your daughter gets her first Wish!

This post would probably get more advice on the cruise board or the DISabilities board. I believe somewhere there is a thread dedicated to WISH trips, but I am not sure where it is.

Or the disabilities board...we've been on a DCL cruise before and everyone says how wonderful they are with disabilities. I'm sure they are, but as far as accessibility, not so sure...we have a DN with disabilities and have determined after seeing the ship first hand, it would not be for him. I guess it would be determined by what your needs would be for your DD. If it would work, I would think it would be a wonderful experience for her!

There are quite a few ppl on the DCL board who have done the Make-a-wish trips. They'll give you lots of tips and share experiences. Perhaps 1 of the MODs would be nice enough to move this thread for you. :thumbsup2

Hi, I dont have anything to add about the DCL, never been on a cruise! But my DS received a MAW trip in 2006. It was WONDERFUL!

My DS who is now 19, was dx'd with melanoma in 2006. I did not know that MAW gifts any child with a life threatening condition. The child does not have to be terminal to qualify.

My DS's wish was to see the X-Games in Los Angeles. MAW made this trip the best! I could never thank them enough. We have such wonderful memories from that trip. It was a nice break during a very scary time.

Hope you guys have a nice trip!:)
