Questions about December

Helping a young couple plan a trip for this Dec. Two adults & a 2-1/2 yr old. What are the hours like in Dec.? I have only been in the summer months. Also, are there any discounts in Dec., if so, when do they usually come available?

At character meals, do 2-1/2 year olds need to pay? also, do you need FPs for a 2-1/2 yr old?

Any other advice would be great, thanks

No charge for 2 1/2 yr olds at any AYCTE or family style meals. No FP for them as they do not have tickets, they simply enter the FP queue with mom and dad. There are likely discounts for the beginning of December but not around Christmas. I'm not sure about hours

The best time to go would be the first one or two weeks of the month, other then that it will be CRAZY! There are at times Disney Dining plans are free (included with a room package) but typically end before the Holiday rush is on! Usually the park hours are extended. hope this helps

Magic Kingdom "closes" at 7:00 for the Christmas parties 3 or 4 days a week so you would only be able to see the fireworks the other days (which are usually the most crowded days). FP+ past about 6:00 is often blacked out.
Epcot is open until 9:30 when they show "Holiday Illuminations".

2nd week of December is a good time to go - less crowded, and sometimes discounts available. They can look on Mousesavers.com for historical discounts chart to get an idea of possibilities(you never know for sure) As for hrs., here is a link to 2016 Dec. hrs to give an idea: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/hours/december16.cfm. As PP mentioned, biggest thing is Christmas parties at MK on nights when you see it closing at 7.
