Questions about Dance Dance Revolution

Hi!

My DS would like Dance Dance Revolution for his upcoming birthday. Do you need to have some sort of game box for this to work well? Is it just as good if it's used straight through the TV?

The reason I'm asking is that we do not - and most likely never will - own a PlayStation, XBox, etc. DS really wants this, but if it's not as good without one, I'm not sure if it's worth the investment.

I believe you have to have the Playstation 2 to make this work.

It runs on a variety of gaming systems. We have a PS 2, which we bught specifically for DDR. We don't have any additional games for the PS2, and the kids don't really care that DDR is all we have. You should see my 7 year old on that thing!

You have to have PS2 or I believe it is also available in the xbox version. You also need the dance pads. My DD14 and DS11 love this game and have a couple different versions. It is well worth the money as it gets them up off the couch and moving. They will play it for hours.

There is a version that plays straight off the tv but reviews (and there were many!!) said that they were really lame with not many songs.

I use my son's PS2 for MY DDR!!!

Thanks for your responses. Since this is the only thing that DS wants for his birthday, and since the reviews are so good, we just may invest in it. He has more energy than he knows what to do with, so it would be good for him to burn a bit of excess energy that way. I guess that we could also get it without the game controller, which would be fine with me.

My son has an XBox that he purchased with his own money after saving for a very long time. My teen daughter asked for DDR for her last b-day. It's the only game she has. It's a great form of exercise.

No, we are in a townhouse, but we would have it in the basement. And our neighbors kids would most likely be over at our house using it, anyway! So, I think they wouldn't mind ...

Besides, we would definitely set certain hours when it could be used, or else they would want to have it on ALL the time. Which would most likely wear them out.
