Questions about Chicago

If your trip is B4 July 20th...we have 15 of the 75 Mickeys to see also::MickeyMo ...Also. even tho it is summer here, ALWAYS have a windbreaker or sweater handy....the temp at the lakefront can drop quickly. Have a wonderful time. Also Venetian Night is the last weekend of July...very pretty to see the boats all lit up. Can get crowded along the lakefront so maybe stake out a spot early. The Citypass can save you afew $$$ if you think you may see more than 1 museum, also check at your hotel front desk and ask if they have a coupon book.....usually 2/1 ridw on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier, or a few $$ off the admission to the Imax and Children's Museum. If you are going to be here in August the Air/Water show can eally pack the people in and it may be hard to find a reasonably priced room. I love it tho! The show itself is free and bring a cooler and beach towels and chairs and enjoy!

Hey Dan...big opening for Millenium Park is this Friday....looks like we're gonna take a peek at it on Saturday, and hopefully check out those Mickey's!

This thread is making me homesick :( :( :(

I also vote for pizza at Gino's....a true Chicago experience. Although, you never really HAVE to leave the American Girl store!

Not from Chicago, but Ginos East is a favorite DIS meeting spot. Don't be surprised if you post that you are eating there and all of a sudden a DIS meet pops up around you.

People have been known to travel great distances for a Chicago DIS meet....

Bring lots of money! Seriously. I see all the cute little girls walking with their big AG shopping bags and it makes me cringe. I know I'll be there in a few short years. I can't believe how much those things cost! Yikes!

I would recommend staying one of the Embassy Suite hotels near Michigan Ave. Very kid friendly with plenty of girls shopping :). Have a great time!

I highly recommend the Wendella boat tours, or the architectural boat tour. They are both very reasonable, and a great way to see the city. If you had boys, I would recommend the pirate ship, but your girls may not like it as much. My son LOVED it though.

If you go to the Cheesecake Factory, prepare yourself for a long wait. No matter what time of day you go there is a long line. Another great place is Grand Lux Cafe, which is owned by the Cheesecake Factory, and it is right on Michigan Ave, very close to the American Girl store. It has a beautiful atrium room that overlooks the Mag Mile, and it's fairly inexpensive (most entrees are between $7-$13). I believe they have a kids menu as well. We were there a few weeks ago and really liked it. Michigan Ave also has a rather large Disney store, if your girls like that.

And robinb wasn't kidding about bringing a lot of money to the AG store! When you see how beautifully everything is laid out, and how excited the girls get, it's easy to get out of control! We were there a few weeks ago, and the man before us in line bought his daughter $1400 worth of stuff! Unbelieveable!

Have a great trip!

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions!

It seems we could stay for weeks and not run out of things to do! :teeth:

I am another one for the Wendella boat tours - they are AWESOME!!!!! Make sure to wear lots of sunscreen because you can get easily burnt on those tours (I know from experience).

If you are staying during the week at all the museums, on various days, have free days. They do tend to get packed though. Also if you go to Garrett's prepare for a line. Across the street from Garrett's (and just down from the AG store on Michigan) is the Disney Store!!!

Definitely check out those sites Dan posted as they will tell you what's going on during the time you will be here if there is anything special going on.

And yes, Millenium Park opens this Friday. We're going to go see the Mickey's and maybe catch a glimpse of the park. Very exciting since we've been in there several times as they've been building it.

Also at night on Wednesday and Saturday's Navy Pier has an AWESOME fireworks show. And at night Buckingham Fountain is lit up and great to just go and relax.

HAVE FUN!!!!
