Probably TMI and I'm sorry, but does anyone know of any birth control with little weight gain? I was on it years ago, but it's been a long time. My last doctor wouldn't put me on birth control at all because of my migraines, but I still get them without it along with a very irregular cycle. I'm going to a new dr in a couple weeks and am going to ask for it again, but I have busted my butt to lose 25 pounds and still trying to lose more so I don't want to gain it back.

Any recommendations?

What about the NuvaRing? It is my understanding (and I'm not 100% sure... my friend was talking about it... DH has been "fixed" so we don't use any BC) that the dose of the hormones in the ring are far less than in BC pills. My friend who uses it says it is super easy, and she only has to think about it once a month, not everyday. She hasn't gained any weight either.

I was on triphasil bc pills for years and had no weight gain from it at all. zero changes, zero side effects that I could tell.

The only BC that I have found that doesn't mess with my system (mood swings, weight gain, etc) is the Nuvaring. It is expensive though ($80 at my pharmacy) so I wouldn't go on it unless you have insurance that will cover BC.

I used Lessina (generic for Alesse), which is a low-dose BCP. I had no bad effects, and no noticeable weight gain.

I'm on Loestrin 24 FE and haven't noticed any weight gain. I think it's just trial and error until your body finds something it agrees with. Good luck!

I'm on tri cyclin lo, and have been for years now. I gained a bit of weight when I went on it...but that may have been puberty too because I went on at 17. Other than the weight gain (I gained about 20 lbs, but I was 130 lb 17 year old with no curves to speak of when I went on) I've had good luck with it, very regular cycle, cramps are not bad, skin is clear :thumbsup2

But if you're looking for something with zero weight gain the nuva ring might be something to consider!

My doctor took me off bcp's due to migraines as well -- there is a higher risk of stroke (which doesn't sound good), so I think your doc may very well refuse to put you back on it.

My husband got fixed.

I used to get migraines as well. One time I decided to write down every time I got a mirgraine, it turned out I was getting them about 3 days before my period. My Ob put me on seasonique low, which is a 3 month of continuous birth control with one week off. Seemed my body's hormones would drop right before and migraines would start. I haven't had a bad one in years. I am more careful around that time, just in case. I also have not gained weight but then again I've been on some form of control for about 9 years now. something to look into :)

I suffered from migraines as well, and told my OB that was a concern of mine. I also wanted to lose weight instead of gain after baby # 4, so, he suggested Mirena. I was VERY skeptical, but after 1 1/2 yrs with it... I've had little side effects, I have lost weight, and my migraines don't seem as frequent. (I used to blame it on the hormone levels between my period).... And a benefit.. hardly ever get my monthly visitor, and if I do, it' so insignificant. (I'm not planning my vacations around it anymore) Glad I did it.... worst case, they can remove it.. but the OB needs to "install" it... and hopefully you have insurance to cover it. Don't have to think about it once every 5 years.

I'm interested in this as well. I am starting Yaz this week to regulate my cycles and the IBS/diabetes issues I have with my cycles. I've been trying hard to lose weight and I'm hoping this won't set me back.

I suffered with terrible migraines and irritability on the Pill. And given that my cycles were very irregular it didn't make sense for me to take all these pills when I was only ovulating about 2-3 times a year. So I got a diaphragm and used it very successfully. No weight gain either.:goodvibes I used it each and every time I needed it--no slips!

I used the ring for several years and LOVED it. Never had any problems whatsoever. My migraines actually got better while on them. Didn't gain weight, no skin problems.. nothing.

Is the ring uncomfortable? I think its a better option for myself because I know I'd forget to take a pill once and I'd end up pregnant....

Thanks for your thoughts ladies!

There are forms of birth control that don't use hormones - that might be one way to go.

I've used Natural Family Planning for 8 years with 100% efficacy. I know I am fertile b/c I conceived both of my children very quickly and purposefully. Anyway, there's just one more option as an FYI. During the time I've been using NFP, two of my close friends concieved suprise third babies while taking the birth control pill. ;)
