This one sounds like a blast but I've been told that it can make a person nauseous if you're prone to that. The only ride that has ever bothered me is Body Wars in Epcot so I'm hoping that I'll be OK. Is it as bad as Body Wars? I'm considering popping a Dramamine before we ride if I might need to.

I get the impression that this is a simulator with a curved exterior screen rather than the usual interior screen. And that the seating is two rows inside a DeLorean and that there are several of these DeLoreans. Do I have the right idea?

Back to the Future the ride utilizes an OmniMax Screen. The large format curved screen that you may have seen at many science museums around the country (I see your name is Planogirl..if you are from Plano, TX...the Dallas Science Museum at Fair Park has this kind of screen as does the Fort Worth Museum of Science and Industry). Now, instead of seats, you have three levels of ride vehicles teared up just like a theater. So, as opposed to the standard simulator with its own on board film...there are many vehicles that share the same screen.

As for it making you nauseus...that really depends on your own tolerance. Body Wars doesnt make many people sick because of its movement...most of it is mental due to subject matter and also colors (red is a color that makes you tense...). That is why Star Tours doesnt make as many people sick in comparison, the colors are all blues and blacks...calming colors...and the subject matter is not traveling through someones heart.

SOOO....will BTTF make you sick....I guess the answer is "maybe"

Plano Texas, I used to live there for 4 years, I use to live off Pebble Vale Dr, in the Riverwalk Apartment Complex, then moved to the Preston Bend Apartment Complex. After I graduated from Plano Senior High in 1997 I moved back to Florida. It was odd hearing about Plano with the Shuttle Debris.

Any way your question, if Body Wars bothered you, you should not ride BTTF it's alot worse then that.

Here is the layout of BTTF.

LOCATIONS: Universal Studios Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan

RIDE TYPE: Motion Simulator (Inside are 2, 7 story tall 180º degree domed I-Max Screens)

FILM MANUFACTURER: I-MAX

GRAND OPENING: May 1, 1991 10:04 PM (Grand Opening for V.I.P's) & May 2, 1991 9:05 AM (Grand Opening for the Public)

CAPACITY:

There are 2 Theaters each Theater having 3 floors.

Floor #1 holds 3 DeLoreans.

Floor #2 holds 5 DeLoreans.

Floor #3 holds 4 DeLoreans.

There are 8 passengers per car.

Therefore this ride can hold 192 visitors at 1 time.

G-FORCE: This ride can exert up to 1.8 Gs of force as it tilts and twists. Compare the lowly airline jet, which rarely reaches 1.5 Gs!

I don't know any of the technical data for BTTF, but I know that I really feel like I'm flying through the air! The sensation is so real and intense. This is my favorite ride of all time. Everytime I ride it, I ask "how'd they do that?!" meaning how did they make me feel like it was real. Amazing ride.

Body wars and BTTf both make me sick. I find BTTF very, very rough; your head really gets banged around. It probably depends where you sit. Perhaps someone out there could give some advice as to the best place to sit so your head gets spared.

I literally cannot STAND Body Wars, it ruined a trip to EPCOT for me one year. Made me violently ill. On the same ride a woman was taken away on a stretcher.. :earseek:

BTTF roughs me up a bit but does not make me ill. I think it's a personal thing, some people have less or more tolerance than others.

I'm in the "It Makes me Sick" crowd. Yet I'm the biggest roller coaster fan on the planet. These simulators play with your brain by messing up your equilabrium. If you sit in the back row, your head will get bashed against the back wall. If you start to get sick, look down at the ground and not the screen. These things shake too much, it's over done, they need to be tamed down. If you do get sick, you'll feel tired for a couple hours.
The new Jimmy Newtron ride at USF is a tamer version of it, doesn't make me sick but is right at the boarder. If Newtron is open when you go, try it first and see how you feel.
The polar bear exhibit at SWF does the same thing, don't ride it, do the walk thru version instead.
And BGT closed their simulator Akabar, I wonder why?

Star Tours-I can tolerate pretty well.
Hanna Barbarra (closed)-Makes me very ill.
Body Wars-Did not affect me at all. I was shocked.
Spiderman-I can tolerate pretty well because it moves on a track
Back to the Future-Makes me very ill.

One day at US we rode BTTF and then HB right after. I had to park it on a bench for about 20 minutes. Never again will I attempt 2 in a row!

It closed because it was a terrible film that pretty much nobody liked. It does still open during really busy periods. It is also a poor performer because of things like it is in an unasuming building that doesnt look like it would have a ride inside, and it is at a point where everyone is looking ahead to Montu and not looking for it.

Akbar's, as yensid said, wasnt very good. I didn't like it at all. I LOOOOOOOVED Questor, though. :)

It sounds like I need to chance BTTF so I guess that I'll pop a Dramamine first just in case. Star Tours doesn't bother me a bit but Body Wars is awful. And I can see how it's the subject matter and not the bumpiness like I originally thought. But still, just in case... :)

By the way, the screen at the Science Museum in Dallas doesn't make me sick but makes me feel a little dizzy if I'm not careful so more logic for taking the Dramamine! And hi from Plano USO, it IS truly a small world. :)

I'm glad to here you'll be taking your chance as a time travel volunteer. The good thing is, if you do get sick, just let Doc know and he'll send you back in time, to before you got sick. ;)

Taking the Dramamine is a good call, just in case. Make a point to sit in the front, though. Not only does the back seat move you around more, but you can barley help banging your head on the "head rest", and if you're a small dude like me, you can't see anything (and if your a big dude like USO, you can get seriously hurt!).

They can send a man through time, but they can't design a practical back seat to an eight-passanger, convirtable Delorean time machine. :teeth:

Thats true, I would say my 11.10.98 accident was the worst. (Notice how I mention 11.10 all the time in my posts? 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, and I'll be there on 03.) Well on 11.10.98 I went on BTTF, it was back in 92 when I last rode BTTF in 1997 I moved "Back" to Florida. I grew about a foot, so I really had no problem when I was 5'5" so this was my 1st time back in the back seat, in the middle where there is a little head room.

The ride started up and WHACK!!! I hit my head on the roof and BOOM! instant tingling in my fingertips and a sharp pain down my neck. Well for the rest of the day and the rest of the week I had a seriously bad head ache.

What was Ironic, was I seen Tom Williams CEO of Universal walking to Lombard's Landing, I was half temped to tell him about what happened. In the end I said nah, but really wanted to say Hi to him and tell him how much I love the park.

Now I hear when he is in the park he LOVES! when people approach him with comments good or bad. So I regret not telling him about it. However new safety warnings have been in place and they now tell tall guys like me to sit up front and start me in a new line.

That's very true about Tom Williams. I've met him before a few times and even "convinced" him to go on River Adventure (back before the park was officially open and they needed 10+ people to fill a boat) and he was very cool about it.

I am not usually prone to motion sickness, but the last time I rode this, I felt like I was going to be sick. I think they made the ride a little too jerky that year or something. I sat in the back and my head kept banging into the ceiling/back of the Delorian. I had a monstrous headache and just wanted the ride to end. It was one of my favorite rides, but 2000 kinda ruined it for me.
