A Aldi just opened here. I only have heard of Aldi here on the boards. I noticed most items are ALDI brands.:confused3

What is the best item in the store?:cool1:
What is the real maker of these products?;)
Must buy items?

Thanks so much for everyones help:worship:

Things I generally buy:

milk, cheese, canned chicken, pre-cooked bacon, cereals, frozen waffles and french toast sticks, frozen chicken breasts, frozen fruit, cereal bars, chips...

My favorite product: bacon wrapped filets...awesome on the grill.

Aldi is linked with Trader Joe's, so often the products are the same but under a different lable. Don't know where they originate or from whom.

I go there about once a week.

I've tried a lot of the products at our Aldi's. The only things I really don't like are the meat flavored tomato sauce and the dried pastas.

I shop at Aldi every 2 weeks and the only item I have ever bought that I thought was not as good or better than brand name was their version of Ritz crackers. I used them as bread crumbs so it was not a total loss. We also shop at Walmart and Tom Thumb because we can't get everything we want at Aldi.

:hippie:We shop almost exclusively at Aldi. Our main staples all come from there, Bread, milk, eggs, butter, cheese are all excellant and much less expensive than our local Chain style stores. I love their 100 cal packs of cookies, the Rice Cakes (caramel), they just got new baked chips.. ( think Baked Lays). love the BBQ ones of those. We like their Ice cream. I use the cake mixes, and canned frosting. I just recently tried the seasonal mix for cinnamon bread/coffee cake, yummy! We like the cereal, and we use the condiments. All of our Paper Products,TP, paper towels, napkins, and paper plates, come from there. Trash bags and laundry soap too, We have purchased tooth brushes and I use the Lacura line of face care products, and make up... the list goes on and on.

The only things that we do not buy from there are my generic "Diet Mountain Dew", coffee, Kraft American cheese, although we do buy Aldi if we are lazy. The best part of shopping at aldi, is that you don't really have to make a decision, you usually only have one choice. There is no size choice, no brand choice, Say you want Mustard.. you can choose, regular yellow mustard or go up a notch and choose dijon, spicy brown or honey. There is no choosing what's on sale, or store brand or national brand.. just buy what's there. It makes it really easy for DH to do All of our shopping.. there is no decisions to make.

Adding, don't forget to take a quarter for your cart and your own bags..

The bacon is good. So are the eggs. The butter is good, too. Honestly, pretty much everything in the dairy case is good -- except for the yogurt. The yogurt is disgusting.

The produce is incredible! All of the frozen desserts are delicious, too.

Just discovered the fruit snacks are NOT good. Most things are fine and a few we like even better that the brand name. Crackers of all kinds are good, can fruit and corn really good, ceral ok, basics-eggs, milk, flour etc. just fine. Bread is good most the time but got a stale loaf last trip but that can happen anywhere.
Love the baby bath wash. Fruit you have to watch but can be just fine. Got a great pinapple for 1.49 last trip.

I know they are linked with Trader Joe's but I really can't see how the products are the same. Aldi's products are full of not-so-good ingredients like msg in the chips, while Trader Joe's products contain more 'healthy' incredients.
The one thing I have to get at Aldi is the skin & eye lotions for day and night. They are by far the best lotions on the market for the price.

The cosmetics are fantastic, as well. I'm almost certain that they're Lancome.

We have a relatively small Aldi's and my biggest issue is that they change stock often. I'll go in wanting to buy something I got the last time and it's no longer available. From what I understand their milk is Borden's and it's a much lower price even than our Costco and at least they always have milk!---Kathy

OP asked who made Aldi's products...

...it's pretty much the same manufacturer that makes other "store brands" for other chains...

Probables are some health/beauty aids could be manufactured by Vi-Jon and breakfast cereals by Ralcorp (both are St. Louis firms).

I really like their staples like bread and milk. The spices are really good too. Pasta/pasta sauce is good but it doesn't last long after opened, so don't keep it hanging around too long after you open them. I like the cereals and oat meals. All the "gourmet" crackers are really good. So is their store-brand hummus. The cleaning products, light bulbs, garbage bags are excellent.

The bacon is good. So are the eggs. The butter is good, too. Honestly, pretty much everything in the dairy case is good -- except for the yogurt. The yogurt is disgusting.

The produce is incredible! All of the frozen desserts are delicious, too.

I make smoothies with the big tubs of vanilla yogurt and it's good at my store. I agree, everything in the dairy case is good and it takes FOREVER for the milk to expire!

I live nowhere near an Aldi's, but we stop whenever we're on the road near one.

Our favorites: Whole frozen smoked butterball turkey-my parents just love these, but they aren't always in stock. Spiral honey ham. Baby back ribs-these are soooo good, and tons of meat. Their Fit/Active things are pretty good, I like the rice cakes and the 100 calorie packs. Flavored tea bags-mint is my favorite. Spices-they just have the staple type spices; they are only $1 for a huge jar. Cosmetics/Face creams-my mom likes these and they are inexpensive. Chocolate-they have many different brands of "gourmet" chocolates and they are awesome; I think they would be excellent for making a gift basket.

I love Aldi!
the only thing I have not liked from there is the dishwasher detergent. I actually returned it to get my money back it was so bad. I tried it for a week and it just did not get my dishes clean, I even rinse well. Kirkland brand is fine.
We love the soft tortilla wraps, can't beat the price!
I agree it is an easy store to shop in, no choices. I can get out of there very quickly.

WOW thanks everyone. You are all so helpful. It is funny someone mentioned Butterball Turkey. They did have them yesterday for .99 a pound!:thumbsup2

We tried shopping there a few times but it's all the way across town and just not worth the hassle for us.

Most products were fine. The only thing that I thought was terrible were the bread products, sliced and bagels.

I like everything except their chips and their pasta sauce..

And when I do my "marathon Christmas cookie baking sessions" with my DGD, they really save me an arm and a leg - on everything from the standard staples to maraschino cherries, nuts, flaked coconut, pie fillings, spices, butter, eggs, etc..:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

An all-time fav of mine is their huge individually wrapped cinnamon buns over by their bread selections.. Can't remember how many are in a box, but they are delicious!:thumbsup2

My DGD also loves their strawberry or cherry fruit roll-ups.. She thinks they're better than the name brands..:lovestruc

Really - there's very, very little that I don't like there.. Maybe their trash bags - if I remember correctly..

We love Aldi!! As another person said, if you don't like something you can take it back and they will refund you the money even without a receipt.

We shop there weekly. Try their fresh salsa in the meat section, it is sooo good. We save money shopping there so we can plan more WDW trips!!:thumbsup2
