Questions about adding on pts?

Hi! :wave2: Currently, we own 175 pts @ BCV. Funny, when we 1st bought we WERE going to buy 200-225 pts, but didn't think we'd need it. We had another child and also didn't think too far into the future about it. So now we are thinking of adding on 50 pts @ either BCV or 50 pts @ SSR. I have a few questions if someone could help me out:

1. First, does anyone have a sheet of the breakdown of the costs if you finance? And the listing of the points with costs?

2. If we buy at SSR do we get to use it for 50 years from the time we buy it (or was that just for the special 120 pt add on)?

3. If we add on at BCV is it only for 40 yrs?

4. If we buy resale, do we only get the amount of years that are left on that person's contract?

5. What's the price per pt. for a new or add-on contract through Disney? I thought SSR was $95/pt. but I saw someone added on at VWL for $89/pt.

We may add on or take a 7 night Disney cruise in another year or two but can't do both. What a decision! Although the add on would benefit us and our kids, and grandkids (we're only 33) for years to come..the tempation of that cruise! I suppose we could always sell the points and go on one, too. I hope someone can answer these questions. I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!

I'll give you a couple of quick answers to some of your questions. Someone will correct me and/or add more info:

Points for SSR are for 50.

BCV points would run out the same time as all other BCV contracts. So, less time then SSR.

You get all of the points until BCV ends. :earsboy:

Regardless of how you buy, SSR expires in January 2054. All other resorts, regardless of how you buy, expire in January 2042.

As of now, the add-on price at SSR is $95-$8 incentive = $87 if you only get '05 points forward. If '04 points are available, the price is $95-5=$90. SSR add-ons are complicated, so call your guide to get all the details for your particular situation.

Prices at the other resorts direct from Disney are currently $89 with no incentives.

The base price for add-ons at SSR goes to $98 on June 19, and I have heard (but do not know for sure) that the prices at the other resorts are going to $92 at some point.

The sold out resorts are going to $92 on 6/19.

If you add-on at a resort other than your current "home resort," keep in mind that you will give you an 11-month window at the other resort, but only for the points you have there.

This is how is was explained to my when I was looking to add-on:
"If you have 150 points at BCV, and added 50 points at SSR, you would have two 11-month windows, but unless you banked/borrowed, you would only be able to make 11 month ressies at SSR for 50 points or less. At seven months, points is points - this only affects the 11 month window."

First, thank you everyone! Secondly, do you have an idea of what the complications might be for SSR add-ons? I won't hold you to it :) I just an idea. I knew the price was going up soon and I thought it was June 19th, but not sure. Guess we need to call tomorrow! In the 3 years we have had DVC I have never made a ressie before the 7 month window! We normally go in July and I usually call in late Jan. or early Feb. and haven't had a problem. We can be some what flexible on resorts. We like the idea of having SSR for another 10 yrs (although it will be our kids that will probably have it at that point!) If I can get 50 pts at SSR would I immediately get 2005 pts? And I'd want a June UY like I have at BCV (to make it easier). Would it be better to have more years at SSR for a little bit higher price?

Another thought that just popped into my head was since we want to do a 7 nt cruise in 2006 is to pay for the cruise and then combine pts from both resorts to rent out and it would pay for the cruise. Plus, we'd have the add-on of the 50 pts each year. Does that sound like a good idea? Granted they let me add-on the 50 pts.

The complication at SSR is that the deal depends on your use year. Depending on your use year, you may have the option of getting '04 points.

For example, my use year is October and I could have gotten '04 points. However, with the time it would have taken to close, my use of those points would have been pretty restricted, so I opted not to get them.

There are no big problems with the add-on; it's just that you may or may not have another option - and it may or may not be something you are interested in. We can give you general info, but your guide will have your account right in front of them on the computer and can give you the correct info as it applies to you.

If it was my decision I think I would go with doing an added at BVC with your current use year. That way all your points are available for making reservations at the 11 month mark.

I'll have to call tomorrow. It would be nice to have it all at BCV. It would be easier. What ever is cheaper! I heard there's a waitlist. Is June a popular UY?
