Questions about AAA Discount

I've learned that you there are AAA discounts at WDW resorts.

What I've read is that during the value season at a value resort it's a 20% discount.

The savings alone could pay for the membership many times over, what's the catch if any?

Are they hard to get?
Is there a catch?

I've asked my travel agent if she can check if it's available, but she said she can't without my member number...which I don't have yet ......

One more question:
If I sign up and add my wife as an associate member can we each get a room with a discount?

On our upcoming trip we will have two rooms.

Thanks,
Todd

Don't let AAA say they can't quote you a rate without a AAA card. We bought one after we booked our trip last year. There was no "Catch" either. We saved even after buying the card. Try a different AAA office or call back. You can even have Disney check the price for AAA off the room (no package). That is how we booked it last year - we had AP's.

I am not sure how many rooms you can book with one membership, though I think it is more than one (under the same reservation). However - you are right about one thing - no catch at all.

AND - you do not have to be a member to book the discount, you just have to be a member and show your card when you arrive. In other words, I have called WDW and reserved a room before under the AAA discount, then gone online and paid for my AAA membership. Maybe it's different if you're booking a package, but I don't see why.

Actually I'm using a Dreams Unlimited Travel agent...she told me that she could not check rates or if they are available without a membership number.

Plus I'm doing a "room only" res.

Yes, it's worth it. Call Disney directly; they'll quote you the rate. They may not book it if you're not a member yet (I had to give them my AAA number before they'd book it), but you'll see how much you save and that should tell you to go join!

There are also other savings throughout the year. For example, I got a 20% discount on a GPS at Circuit City with my AAA card. And there are discounts on hotels other than at Disney, etc. It's a great card to have.

Agreed - I could not book without a membership number. They would hold it, however, for about 48 hours, so I called to see if there was a room available with the discount, then I ordered the membership.

BTW, for 2009, the discount for values in value season is 15%. They changed it  from last year.

It is worth it for the discount, although if some sort of free dining, or free park hopper, or some other incentive comes out for the time of your stay, you can't combine it with a AAA room discount.

Depends on the resort. Values and Mods are still 20% (I booked one with a 20% discount), but Deluxes are 15%.

Shhhhh....(I got 20% off at a Deluxe resort for Jan. 2009)....

(Ooops! Sorry, now I see you were talking about the discount for Values only. My bad!)

We originally signed up for AAA just for the Disney discounts but it has paid for itself time and time again with other things as well. The Disney vacations they have are well worth it but they also offer discounts to local entertainment, sporting events, movies, etc.
You should go to your local AAA and just ask for their list of discounts and they will usually give you a list of all of their current offers (including whatever Disney packages they have running at the time).

When I booked our 2007 trip to WDW with AAA I had no idea they had a discount, we were members and had been for many years. Our trip was great with no problems and we got the personal touch and did everything person to person. Our AAA TA stayed on the phone to book my 2008 trip the day free dining promo came out and got that for us. While we were at WDW 3 weeks ago we booked the bounce back free dining with Disney and as of today AAA took over the trip details with no changes except for our conformation number and their package also includes a free picture. I don't think I received a % off the room, but I am happy for free dining.

AAA sounds great. I will for SURE join be my summer 09 trip.
IF Disney has FD, can I get FD and the 15- 20% discount, or just the better discount?
Can you only get it on rack rates or packages.

In a perfect world...I would have FD + 20% hotel rates during value season. LOL.:cool1:

You can only get one kind of discout per reservation. So, if you get free dining, then you can not get a discount on the room. You need to choose which discount is better for you.
