I’ve been readng lot about the DVC and am totally intrigued. My family and I are thinking of planning a 2 week trip for next August and we’d like to possibly rent at BCV. Any comments on whether this scheme will work or not?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Arrive on Aug 11 (Friday) and stay Friday and Sat at Universal.

Check in at BCV, 2 bedroom on Sunday August 13 and stay 13 nights through the following Saturday.

Using only points, this would be 640 points (based on this year's points, anyway).

My first question is, would we have to get all of the points from one person to have one single reservation? If so, is it likely to find one person with that many points to rent, who is a BCV home member that could book for us 11 months out a dedicated

2 BR with 2 Queen beds? (I know, that’s a tall order!!)

Or could we : Make one ressie for Sunday-Thursday with points rented from one person (170 points= ~ $1700)

Get a cash rental for Fri and Sat (Through a DVC member or on our own?? Not sure how much this costs…)

Make another ressie with points rented from someone else for the next Sunday through Thursday (170 points= ~ $1700)

Get a cash rental for Friday.

(I realize if we do this, I couldn’t get the 2 queen bedroom.)

We would have 5 adults plus 2 children who will be 5 at that time. If paying by cash, do you pay extra for the extra 3 adults?

If the second situation above is possible, would it really save more money, and would we be able to link all the reservations so that we wouldn’t have to move?

Sorry for all of the questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :wave:

I would love it if we could just BUY into DVC, but I don’t have that kind of cash to lay out right now.:sad2:

If you start asking sooner than later, you will probably be able to locate one person to rent you all of the points and call at the 11 month mark to make the reservation. That way you will have the room with the 2 queen beds guaranteed. You could also move to option "B" and have one member book part of the trip and another member book another part of the trip. Unless you really wanted to pay cash for the nights in between, why bother? Just rent from more than one person.

Good luck. It sounds like a great trip.

With the second situation, you may have to move since the cash nights would be reserved thru CRO. You can ask to have them linked, but it won;t be guaranteed. I'm not certain, but I don't think you can reserve the 2BR with 2 beds using cash thru CRO either and if that's the case, you will definitely have to move.

There is no additional charge for having more than 2 adults in DVC point reservation.

If you start looking in the next few weeks, you may have good success finding a member who can supply all the points needed for your trip.(You will need to find a BCV owner.)

Good luck!

With 640 points rented, that is 6400 dollars at least for the room. That would put a huge dent in a contract on the resale market at the BCV. Just a thought!

::yes::

At BCV, the dedicated 2 bedroom units with two beds in the second bedroom are not allowed to be reserved for cash. The are reserved for points reservations.

Best wishes -

Buy a 250 point contract with some banked points for $21,000, then borrow to get to 640, and you get your vacation and almost 1/3 of the contract paid for. 3 more trips like that and DVC is paid for.

I was just thinking that too.

The rack rate for 2006 (with tax) is roughly $641 per night. A DVC member can't use their cash discount (25% off rack rate) unless they are physically staying in the unit.

While your reservation can probably be made, keep in mind that with such a large reservation you will most likely not have many cancellation options. The best that someone could do would probably be to offer to re-book the trip for other dates before the points expire.

I agree that before you lay out $6,000+ you should give consideration to whether you will be returning to WDW on a regular basis and would want to stay at DVC resorts. If so, I'd at least explore the financing options available with a $6,000 downpayment.

Of course, I price everything in terms of DVC points. If I see a ring at a jewelry counter for 1000 dollars, I start calculating mentally how many points that is in DVC Points. I really have addonitis! Ha! :crazy:

Thanks for all of your suggestions. My brother is considering buying 250 points at SSR. I'm not sure if he will be able to get BCV at 7 months out, but we might try that.

On that note, we're going Jersey week this year and planned on staying at CBR. But if he buys SSR, I wonder if we could stay there? Anyone know if SSR 2BR are all booked for Jersey week this year??

here's our suggestion...

Do the US/IOA...rent points for Sun-Fri...then rent a house for the next week...save some $$ for your DVC deposit;)

August is a WDW busy time not a DVC busy time so you may have good luck in getting BCVs at 7 months out.
