Please help! I know what low carb is, but What is meant by NET carbs? Are they different than the carbs on the label? (I know this isn't a recipe, but it does pertain to one). Any help would be appreciated.

Net carbs = total carbs - fiber - sugar alcohols.

Fiber is not digested by the body, so you can subtract it from the total carbs.

Sugar alcohols are not digested by most people so they also can be subtracted from total carbs, unless you find you're sensitive to them.

So if a food has 7 total carbs and 5 of those carbs are fiber, then there are only 2 net carbs and that's all you count.

thanks! another question: what are sugar alcohols typically? I mean, what types of foods generally contain sugar alcohols? TIA

Sugar free candy (like Russell Stover, Hershey's, etc...) have sugar alcohol. They can cause some people to stall on their weight loss, and for some people cause a reaction, such as excessive gas or a laxative effect.
