My DW was wondering about the coffee maker in the Villas. Have they converted to the Kurig type machine, "K Cups"? We will be at the BWV and the last time we had the ability to go was a couple years ago.....then they still had the filter bags.

I've not heard of any move to convert the coffee makers at WDW.

SSR still had the same machines when we were there last week.

As far as I know, no DVC resort has Keurig coffee makers. We just stayed at BWV and the coffee maker was brand new but still the type that uses a filter basket and loose coffee.

The only way to have a Keurig brewer in your room is to take your own (which I do).

All DVC Units will have a full size (10-12 cup) Mr Coffee brand brewer.

Sheesh, I hope they don't do that! I like my fresh ground every morning, and I dont' think I can do that with a keurig.

I also hope they don't do that. While I don't like the coffee they provide, it's better than the Keurig stuff my sister has. I'm staying with her for a few days since she had surgery, and the coffee thing has been a pain (I forgot to bring mine). The Keuring stuff is ridiculously expensive, and using the K-cup gadget is a real nuisance (hard to clean for reuse, as mentioned). I like to have the regular ol' coffee-maker available so I can use my own filters and coffee. And I am totally not a coffee-snob (don't like starbucks either).

Actually you can but it's kind of tedious. You can get a little reusable k-cup with a metal filter that you fill with your own coffee. Cleaning it afterwards is kind of a pain.

But you are still relegated to making ONE CUP at a time. That does nothing for the rest of the folks in the villa drinking coffee too. Sounds like a PITA.

We use a Keurig at home (with the disposable K-cups) and love it except for the issue with the k-cups not being recyclable. DH likes stronger coffee than I do so we each get to drink what we prefer. Also, each cup is freshly brewed so everyone gets a fresh cup of coffee no matter if they are the first one up in the morning or the last one. And if I want a cup of flavored coffee I can make just one cup since that is all I want.

At WDW, we compromise and bring one bag of coffee we both will like. It works out fine since we drink less coffee at WDW than we do at home so DH doesn't get too bored drinking the same coffee every day. Given a choice, he would prefer having a Keurig in our villa and keeps lobbying to get one of the single cup models to put in our Owners Locker.

I bought the reusable k-cup to use up the leftover coffee we sometimes bring back home from our trips to WDW.

I have a Keurig at home and love it, since I am the only coffee drinker in the house and just need 1 cup before heading to work. Personally, I don't think it makes the coffee hot enough and even with the largest cup size selection, it does not brew a very large cup of coffee. But, it is convenient. My first Keurig stopped working after less than 1 year, and Keurig replaced the unit for free. With all of the moving parts, I doubt a machine would last more than 2-3 months in a villa without some mechanical failure.

We keep basket filters in our OL and I just take a 1/2 pound of some ground coffee in my suitcase. We also have some Folger's coffee pods which can just be thrown into the basket to brew a 1/2 pot.

Given the prices they charge for food at the DVC resort shops, just imagine how much they would charge for a k-cup at the gift shop . Not to mention what they would charge for a box of 12-16 :scared1:!

Just back from BWV and BLT and had the same 12 cup full size coffee maker in all 5 rooms our family had.

3 studios and 2 1 brs.

Universal hotels now have the Keurig coffee maker in their rooms, so the precedent is set for having them in hotel rooms. We enjoyed the Keurig immensely when we stayed at the HRH in June. They provided multiple different varieties of coffee/tea/hot chocolate cups in the rooms, and they replenished them each day when the housekeeper came in to clean the room. I, for one, would love for Disney to provide them.

Universal has had the Keurig in their rooms for several years now (maybe 3-4 years ago). This is not new. This was when I was introduced to the Keurig before stores actually started selling them. I ended up with the first model (B60) after using the small one at Hard Rock Resort.

Add me to the list that hopes the villa does not get them. Since we don't get replenished everyday, it would get expensive having to buy the coffee pods to bring with us. If they do add the Keurigs later, I hope they still have regular coffee pots we can get on request.

BTW OP, I just got back from my stay at BWV 2 days ago and they still have the 10-12 cup coffee pots.

Loews operates the "Universal hotels" and it seems to be a fixture in their properties. Attended a convention at the Nashville Loews a couple years ago and had a Keurig in my room.

Loews hotels are definitely a notch above Disney in several regards but I don't necessarily see Disney following suit here. At least not in the villas where coffee doesn't get replenished on a daily basis and many DVC members would be less-than-thrilled at the prospect of having to buy k-cups.

I've been considering one of these for my "other" home. Can't decide....:surfweb:

Sorry, but the K cups just seem like another not so 'green' idea to me.

After trying MANY different brands, I am convinced you will never get as good of a cup of coffee from a K-cup as you will from a nice pot of fresh brewed good coffee. It's just not the same.

The K-cups are much better than any other "instant"-ish types, and yes, a good K-cup can be better than a coffee pot made with bad grinds, but anyone using/buying bad grinds is evil. (As is the case for whoever orders at my work, but that is a different story...)

I love coffee so I have a Kurig, a french coffee press, and a 12 cup Cuisinart coffee maker. Each works well at home depending on the consumption needs and the time allowed. In the villa however, since we travel with 3 or 4 adults we need the 10 cup coffee brewer or we would never get out of the villa in the morning!

I would just be happy if they put coffee mugs in the 1 and 2brs, those tiny little cups are ridiculous!
