question to clarify annual pass purchase

We've been DVC members since 2002 but have never purchased an annual pass. We have at least two trips planned in the next 6 months so perhaps it's time to finally make that purchase. I understand that if I purchase the pass on-line, I will receive an e-mail with a certificate that will need to be redeemed at WDW. I think I remember reading somewhere that the annual pass runs from the date you redeem the certificate, not the purchase date. Can someone please tell me if this is accurate? If so, I will go ahead and purchase it. If not, I'll wait until I get to the parks.

Correct, the annual pass is good from the actual date of redemption, not when you purchase it online.

That's correct. I purchased the promo PAP last December over the phone and plan to activate it in November, it will be good until November 2014. I used the will call # to link my room reservation in MDE to get fastpasses.
