Hey there.

I know that the ddp inclueds gratuity, but when they say gratuity are they meaning tip? Or are we expected to tip on top of the gratuity?

thanks!

DDPers of "the world" unite... have the gratuity/tip removed from the bill when you recieve bad service.

They cannot remove it, you can try, but the system wil not let them remove it.

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure.

What about this scenario...

We are a party of 3 and a party of 5, requesting a table for 8 or two tables of four. I have read that parties of 8 or more a gratuity is automatically added to the bill. Is this something that is to be paid out of pocket or is it part of the ddp as well? Does that makes any sense at all???
Thank you!

just keep remembering....
1)gratuity=tip
2)all gratuity / all tip reguardless of what it is called or if it is for a party of 8 or whatever is covered by the ddp

Your server (atleast as of now, next year who knows) gets 18% of the menu price of your meals without you putting anything extra on the table. Some people think they need more and leave it. Reguardless of your party size, if you are on the ddp 18% is automatically added to the price of your meal but you do not pay any extra for it....that is taken care of in what you prepaid.

"Bad service" is a very subjective thing, what some may call bad service, I may think perfectly acceptable. I think a better idea would be that if you are on the DDP & receive bad service mention the incident to the manager & let them make the decision on how "bad" the server is (or isn't). I have never had bad service at Disney, granted I am not a vet, but the dozen or so times I have dined there have been wonderful w/ friendly service!

The gratuity will more than likely(tip you can call it also) , not be included in your ddp as of next year1/1/08. I read in a local miami news paper that the unions were fifhting to keep it for the service staff, but it was declined by the disney board and they want the guests to provide the tip as of that dte...I also read that ddp is now 90% of wdw table service business and guests who do not purchase it, are nearly reduced to a walk in basis if lucky.. SO, ddp is now 90% of a servers income... I assume the servers will be on their toes, full of magic, if they plan on making a good living as a server at wdw...

the times, they r a changin....popcorn::

Thank you all for your responses. I'm glad to have this cleared up!

Agreed, bad service is subjective, on our last trip out of 16 table service meals... one had lousy service. But is was so lousy as to have colored the whole trip. The manager was no help, and could have cared less, but not by much. Knowing what we know now, for this year, if we recieve bad service, I will be having the gratuity, tip, what ever you want to call it removed, or will not be paying the bill. People on DDP are not second rate and should be treated like any other party paying OOP.

There is no excuse for the bad service, we watched her fauning over another table while we had a pile of plates and empty drinks at Boma, further she disappeared for 45 min with our card. No not an exaggeration, what was going to be an early dinner turned into a nightmare to get back to poly via downtown disney.... etc. Anyway, someone, somewhere cares and I will find that person to have the tip (to insure prompt service, the reward for providing excellent customer service) removed.

just an fyi..........I am a server at the cheesecake factory in IL and gratuity (tip) is added at our place for parties of 7 or more. It is not mandatory that the guest pays it.
gratuity that is added in the state of IL is a SUGGESTION........they can not make you pay a gratuity if you have a reason not to, just bring it to a managers attention, I believe that they HAVE to take it off.

I always leave AT LEAST 20% if my service is great.
18% is standard in the industry for good/average service.
If you have horrible service, your server should not get 18% and that is coming from a server herself!
~~ a friendly F.Y.I~~
just remember......if you are "camping" (sitting at a table, visiting for longer than 20 minutes after your bill is paid) TIP EXTRA!!!!!!!!! your server can not turn your table again if you are sitting there and then they are losing money.....tables to servers=$$ (like rental property) think about it the next time you dine out.........would you not want to get paid for an hour of work at your job?

As a another server, I agree 100 Percent.

If I'm misunderstanding, I'm sorry, but walk-ins were hard to come by long before the DDP. I can remember trouble DH & I had during a week-long trip back in '99 with no PS's (the former ADR).

And anyone can made an ADR, not just folks on the DDP. We've never purchased the DDP, go to WDW anywhere from four to six times a year, and have generally been able to eat where we want as long as we book a ressie in advance.

But I do agree that times are a'changing at WDW. Personally, I can't stand "all-inclusive." Tips, amenities, meals, desserts, whatever. All-inclusive is designed so you pay in advance for crap you probably don't even need, often at the sacrifice of discounts you could actually use. Plus, it takes control away from the consumer. No thanks, not for me. I'll pay as I go. I've never had a problem including the tip on my credit card or just leaving cash.
