Question room requests - HA do we have to ask not to be in one?

All one Bedroom and larger units have the jacuzzi tub EXCEPT at AKV Jambo, there have been reports of at least one HA unit in Jambo without a tub, likely due to size restraints when retrofitting the rooms into villas.

Unfortunately, given the limited number of villas in Jambo, since this is a priority for you, I would definately request a non-HA, or to assure you'll have a jacuzzi, you may want to consider checking into availability at OKW. The rooms are much more spacious at OKW, the washers & dryers are full sized and the jacuzzi tubs are also larger than any other DVC resort.

I know from reports that the HA 1-BR on the Concierge floor does not have a jacuzzi tub, but I am not 100% sure about the others.

A jacuzzi is pretty important to me too. I rarely spend the points for a 1BR. While the other things about a HA room don't bother me, that would. I suppose that I would ask for a non-HA room if booking a 1 BR at AKV Jambo, but that would be the only situation where I would.

Unfortunately since this is our first trip as DVC members and one of the reasons we joined was because DH LOVES AKL I don't want to move us. Unless we could have gotten a BW 2 bedroom with a BW view at seven months which was impossible with the F&W fest as he loves Boardwalk as well and has already talked about adding points on there. :goodvibes

I think I'll do that Robin - take off Zebra Trail and add non-HA. We have a standard view booked so I know that there are not a ton of those that are two bedrooms.

I double check before I accept the room. That way, no change fee.

I've tried asking at the front desk and had the CM lie to me. She told me it wasn't HA, but it was. When I called later, they tried to tell me they don't have access to that information about which rooms are HA. Oh, really? What if a person checks in who needs a HA room and didn't prerequest-are you saying that the front desk doesn't know? So now, I just keep a list of HA rooms so I know if I'm getting one.

It's a good idea to have a list.

I had the AKV Concierge 1 bedroom without the Jacuzzi tub last Christmas, and I was none too happy. Im sorry, but I dont pay that kind of points to have a roll in shower as our only bathing option. A 1 bedroom should have a separate tub and a shower or in AKV's case they should not book it unless it is specifically requested or disclosed. I had already resigned to the fact that our Jacuzzi and shower would be combined, but to not have a tub at all was shocking.

It was Villa 6202 for those interested.

OOOH, a list! That's a GREAT IDEA/

Where does one acquire such a list?

Believe it or not this is an all too common occurence in the hotel industry. I once sent the night time Front Desk staff on a scavenger hunt through a Marriott SpringHill Suites looking for an HA room with roll-in shower. The information they had in their computers did not match up with reality. Very furstrating for all of us. It turned out the only roll-in shower room was already given out earlier that night to a guest who didn't need it. But even though I had put the request in my reservation before, it just didn't matter.

This is a case when Rooms Control knows more than your average Front Desk CM. Part of the problem is Front Desk staff not understanding the different designations of rooms. After all, some HA rooms are called such because they have grab bars in the bathroom and possibly an ADA toilet seat. You'd need a "fully accessible HA room" to get the roll-in shower accommodation. I've learned to simply ask for a "roll-in shower".

Of course then there are those who don't understand what a "roll-in shower" is. Here's a hint, the usual showers with the swing-out glass doors and 3" step is NOT a roll-in. I hate to tell you how I manage to use them.

By some eager beaver collecting all the trip reports and noting room numbers. As far as I understood it though, only AKV's Concierge rooms (15 of them max?) had this issue of a 1bedroom witha shower instead of tub. Also, it appears they have no studio with roll-in shower. A guest reported here that they were informed of that later and were moved down to the 5th floor in a unit with a shower.

I'm not aware of AKV Standard or other room categories having such a problem. There appears to be enough of them to accommodate all needs.

Concierge does suck though. That's one reason I'm glad I didn't get sucked into the whole "add-on AKV so you can get Concierge". For someone who needs an HA room, it is bound for disappointment.

FWIW, I know where at least 4 HA rooms are at SSR. Only the studio lacked a tub. All the other rooms had jacuzzi and shower. The 2bedroom had jacuzzi, roll-in shower and a non-accessible bathroom with tub in the 2nd bedroom portion.

BCV HA rooms are easy to remember
125, 128, 130 ---
225, 228, 230
and so on for each floor.

I believe this is correct but if it not please someone let me know.

Sounds right to me. And can anyone tell me, on the third floor is there one more in the 70s? I guess you'd call me one of those eager beavers-that's exactly how I got my list.

BroganMc-I'm so sorry about what happened to you. That's why I figured the front desk knew-to avoid instances like you had to endure.
