Can someone tell me the size of the bunk beds in Animal Kingdom Lodge. I am traveling to Disney for the first time with my son and husband next week. My son is 16 years old 6'3" and autistic. He wants to be like the young boy shown on the planning dvd from Disney who sits on the top bunk at the AKL. I am not sure the bed will be long enough unless it is a twin XL. Any help would be appreciated. This is also my first time posting on a discussion board so I am not sure if I am placing this question in the proper place.
Thanks so much-
Michelle

Michelle, welcome to the DISboards!

We had the bunk beds at AKL one time and although I can't give you the exact size because I didn't measure them, they're big. I'd say they're as long as a regular bed. Problem I can see for him is that his head might bang the ceiling if he sits up on the top bunk.

We stayed at the Wilderness lodge and they have the same bunk beds. They are a regular twin. I have heard a lot of people say that they have had tall people sleep in the bunks. Most people are so tired at the end of a park day that they will sleep anywhere. I would think that it would be very tight for him. :crowded:

My older DS is 6 feet and slept in the top bunk with no problem. The only problem may be hitting his head on the ceiling if he is not careful.

Thanks for the info. I can start preparing him for a regular bed instead. It will take a few days to accomplish, that is why I posted the question and really appreciate the quick responses. He will want to sleep on the top bunk and watch his portable dvd player on the bottom. If it is a little cramped he will not do well with continually hitting his head and becoming frustrated.
Thanks again-

My son was about 15 when we were there, there was no way he could sleep on the top bunk, nor on the bottom, it was constant hitting of his head.

We had bunks at AKL at the end of May. 13 yo ds slept in the bottom bunk with NO trouble, and 4 yo ds and 2 yo dd slept in the top bunk. The kids loved it!! The bunks were the same length as the queen beds. The clearance in the bottom bunk is of course low -- it is a bunk bed after all -- but not extremely so.

DH and I were given a room with bunk beds at AKL, although we really didn't want them. They seemed very small to me and I thought only a child or small adult could be comfortable in them. I'd have rather had another queen to open the luggage on, but they were too small for that. It was just wasted space to us.
