Question regarding school clothes

I buy a couple of new things, but since they're still wearing summer stuff for the first 1 1/2 months, I just wait until they go on sale in the fall - I'm not paying full price for clothes they can't wear until the end of October. My kids usually dress themselves - I'm lucky if the little ones match, and my dd12 has strong opinions on what she wears.

Right now so much in the stores is fall already & it is over 105 here today! It will be hot through Oct! So I refuse to buy fall things now.

Same here and we start school on Friday! There is no way I'm sending DD in fall clothes, she'd melt. Besides, by the time it's cold enough for winter clothes, they'll all be on clearance with the spring stuff on the racks. ;)

She's completely into dresses right now, the more twirly the better. As long as she's wearing bike shorts underneath same as she always has (required at pre-K) we should be fine. Her pre-K didn't like sandals, flip-flops, crocs, etc.. so she's always had to wear tennis shoes for school. The only time I send her in something delicate is picture day, and she always gets a change of clothes for afterwards.

I only buy my kids clothes when they need them. I do however buy my daughter a new back to school outfit. I think I do this because growing up I wore a uniform and would have loved getting a back to school outfit. Actually I would have loved to get something that wasn't a hand me down but that's another story. I always have my kids wear tennis shoes to school. At some point in the day they will have PE or rescues and need to have them on. They are also safer than sending them to school in crocs or sandals

My kids wear uniforms but they do get new uniform clothes for the 1st day of school, new school shoes (tennis shoes) & something new they can wear on a free dress day. Their grandmother buys most of it because she enjoys shopping with them.
I've found their uniforms to be very durable & if they get something on it, then at least I know they're having a great day.

Don't forget when buying school clothes for the little ones...you will not be there to 'help' them - pull on pants instead of buttons (if they can't do buttons themselves yet) - no-tie shoes (or just spend the next month having tie lessons at home). No belts unless they are very adept at putting on and off - my son had an accident because it took him too long to remove his belt - and they ALWAYS wait until the last minute to go, don't they?

I'm amazed how many parents send kids in things they could never do themselves, which is fine if you don't mind them going through the rest of the day with untied shoes...but IMO it is not the teacher's responsibility to tie shoes all day long - she/he has enough to do!

My 2 cents:
I always buy the kids a few new things for back to school. I think it adds to the excitement. :goodvibes Generally, backpacks, sneakers and a couple of summery clearance items since it is too hot for the warm clothes.
Don't go all out and spend big bucks though. The clothes will get dirty. And don't think that just because you send them in something nice, they will act they way. I've seen 1st grade girls playing soccer at recess in their taffeta dresses, high heels and long coats.:rotfl:
Also, make sure that the kids can manage their clothes themselves. It is embarassing for them to have to ask the teacher for help with the belts, buttons etc.. but what choice do they have? When you gotta go..... I actually had one little girl who was having accidents because she didn't want to ask for help. Also, unless your child can tie, don't buy shoes with laces. This is a pain for both your child and the teacher.

We are cyberschoolers (school-at-homers). And what I did at the beginning of the last two years was buy six Cyberschool emblem t-shirts and she wears a new one each day. This way her good clothing is not ruined and I can move on to art without having to change clothes....I agree with the teacher. Purchase some low cost t-shirts at Walmart. Stock up on Spray and Wash
