Question regarding resort availability

Is there different allotments for regular "cash" reservations and DVC "point" reservations?? In other words, if say OKW is available through regular res for the dates I want is it available to me to use my points or is it 2 totally different things where it may be available for "cash" but sold out for "points"?? Thanks!!

There are two classifications for reservations at DVC resorts. Points reservations for DVC members and cash reservations. The cash portion comes from the 4% of the ownership retained by DVD plus any points traded out of the DVC system by members are turned over to CRO to rent as cash to pay for the "trade".

Yes, there is a different allotment. For OKW, 4% is set aside for cash reservations plus whatever is converted for member exchange. Points cannot be used to secure any of these reservations. So you could call to make reservations with points for a specific night and be told there is no availability and then call CRO and get the exact same nights for cash. As it stands now for BCV, they will only all point reservations for the amount of the resort already sold (approx 40%). So you could still run into being told by MS that there is no availability, but still be able to make reservations through CRO for cash. I think this answers your question.

The points and cash rooms are owned by different people and there is no real interconnectivity to those 2 groups of rooms. There are some limited exceptions but they don't really apply here.

While it's true that the 4% may be used for cash reservations, some of the purpose of that inventory is to have a reserve to use for renovation and repair of the resort. That number of rooms may be rented, but they are often used to provide point reservations when rooms are unavailable due to maintenance issues.
